Guardian Flight missing in SE AK

I interviewed with them Monday morning in Anchorage and accepted a job with them yesterday morning. They are an absolutely first class operation, and the pilot was very experienced in both the King Air and in SE AK.

Sad deal.

I was thinking about you just last night, wondering how your career was progressing. Congratulations on the new job.

Very, very sad. Last report is that some debris has been found, but no confirmation that it is from the King Air.

Guardian a good operation. Congrats on the job. Where will you be based?

I've known several Guardian pilots over the years, don't know any of the current pilots. Very sad to hear this type of news

The missing plane was based in Juneau. :(

Debris in the water 22 mi W of Kake, right about where they were looking. The weather has been garbage here all day - I am on standby for medevacs overnight.

Base tbd, I’ll be an SIC in the 200s for a little while - I don’t have enough multi-time to qualify as PIC, but they’re gonna ship me somewhere to get my atp/ctp done and once I have enough time they’ll move me over to the left seat and get me my ATP. I’d like Deadhorse once I upgrade, but we’ll see where the need is. They did promise me they’d keep me in AK.

I've known several King Air pilots from Guardian. The last one I knew moved on to fly B-747 for UPS out of Anchorage. Boy it's really sad news, I hope I have not overlooked anyone. Prayers for everyone involved.

I read about the debris. The weather wasn't terrible over there, about 1500 ceiling but 10sm visibility. However, you are descending into a black hole when on the approach to Kake.

Sounds like a good opportunity. I talked to Guardian's DO about the opening for a 200 driver in Sitka. Maybe we will fly together some day.

Kristin, did you know the pilot?

Yes! I did. I am devastated. Pat used to fly for us, and stopped by from time to time. I enjoyed chatting with him numerous times. The last time I saw him was last fall when we were both in Haines.

A Sitka based 200 pilot is left last year to fly 747's for Atlas.

Jarrod's Maule in 10/15. I thought he went to UPS, could have been Atlas. He was trying to get he Maule done, on is breaks from training.

Jerrod was before my time in Sitka and I haven't met him, so he might not still be in the area.

They called off the search this afternoon.

Add one more to the list of many planes at the bottom of the sea with the occupants still in the seats.

In Sitka on baby watch, but glad i got to catch up with him last Sunday in Klawock.

The wife told me they found the flight recorder/box and it is on it's way to Juneau. She heard second had from local flyers. I'll look for a news post.

Outside of being a field investigator who has to comb through the wreckage, working in the recorders lab and listening to someone's last moments over and over again got to be one of the most mentally draining jobs at the agency.

I hope the recording is useable and contains information to solve this case.

I can only speculate, mechanical or pilot incapacitated by a medical issue. Regardless, it may give closure to the crews family/friends.
