Anyone interested in a motorcycle gather?

I've done more than one extended camping trip with my bike, one lasting 6 weeks. However, on the current 2 bikes, the Fireblade doesn't have sufficient pillion to strap anything on (not that I would with a bike that cherry) and I can't strap much on the Wing either (it lost its luggage rack sometime back). On that bike I'm left with the luggage volume, which is small and has to hold gear as well. A cruiser with a small pillion and no wheelie bar will have the same problems. I vote motel, especially after a long ride!

Hum, this sounds like fun... I have the licence but not the machine and even with the machine I lack experiance.... maybe we can talk Rick into it and I can grab the back seat of his Wing.

I would rather go down in a group, anyway. I would say with your experience level, in order to really think about the trip you'd need to buy a bike now, and once spring starts start riding it quite a bit. Better to see if we can talk Rick into coming and just hitch a ride.

East coast is a bit too far for me. Not that I can't do it, but just not enough vacation time. I like to stop a lot and take pics.....

Midwest or west coast gathering? I'm in.

Sooner the better for setting things up, probably, so everyone can mark off their calendars. :)

I need to get a throttle lock for my Interceptor...

Ted,

If you would jsut break down and admit Harley's are better, you could go buy one with factory cruise control and be done with it already. lol

Am I the only one who thinks that having an 800 page catalog of chrome bolt ons turns the bike into more of a fashion statement than a vehicle?????

I suppose I agree Pete as my bike came with most of the chrome I wanted on it already.

Dave, I never said Harleys weren't better. I would love to have an Ultra Classic, Road King, Fat Boy (the first Harley I rode was a Fat Boy), etc. But... they cost too much money!

My Interceptor, on the other hand, is cheap!

snickersnortguffaw....

Chrome is a waste of money, IMHO. I hate it. Just weighs the bike down and makes it slower.......of course, maybe that's what a bunch of them folks are hoping for.

14 bikes in the garage and not a one of them is a chrome whore.

Any updates on this? I'm gearing up for the event. I just got a new jacket for Tristan.

Now I just need to wait for these to show up:

Anyone have experience with Givi luggage? I'm thinking about ordering the V46.

I'm interested in where/when as well. If Tennessee is indeed the destination, I may be able to make this.

Jesse, where do you buy your tires? Are you getting them online and installing them yourself? Sorry, I have no input on the luggage.

For those of you who camp on your bike trips, I hear good things about the Hennessey hammocks. They have a lightweight design, and are shaped assymetrically so that you lay relatively flat, not slung like a traditional hammock.

Sorry, guys, I've been crushed, at work and out. I guess busy is better than not, these days. Expect some activity and questions this weekend!!!

BTW, Jesse, the Road Attacks are what I want to try next, I have 021 Bridgestones now...

Oh, and Givi makes great stuff, just be sure to get the model specific racks for your bike. I have two older 45l bags, and two of the newer style 36l bags. I presently use one of the ugly 45l bags as a top case on the RT.

My older cases are vintage 1996, so the stuff works well and lasts forever.

I ordered the tires from BikeBandit.com. I usually take off the wheels and bring the wheels/tires to a shop to have them mount the new ones. The shop will balance them as well. It is really a PITA to mount tires without the proper equipment. During my 'poorer' days I always mounted them myself using several large screw drivers.

I put them on this weekend. Wrenching on motorcycles for fun is therapeutic.

This is the 'please don't fall over' stage of the install:

You should ask him how he held the front up... *snicker*

Looks sharp Jess! Can't wait to go on a trip!

So I think it would probably be a good idea to start thinking of a date for the motorcycle gather along with a definite place. It would make it easier for everyone else to plan around it. Everyone starts early for Gastons after all.

I would like to know as well. I am definitely wanting to come on this, although whether I come on motorcycle or in Jaguar will be determined - mostly based on whether or not I still have the motorcycle when the time comes. :)
