Good morning everyone. Been lurking and this is my first post.

I am working to finish up my IRA and need to build some hours. Planning to fly from Charlotte area to somewhere within 3 hr (C172) radius and am looking for an airport with a café on site. I was thinking somewhere in south Georgia as I have already been north and East isn't really an option :)

Did a quick search and didn't see anything

Thanks in advance :)

Jekyll Island, 09J. No on-site cafe, but free golf cart for 1:30 min and 5 min to nice restaurant on the water called The Wharf. Also no fuel, but options for Fuel just inland.

St. Simons Ga. (KSSI) Soul BBQ. It's not on site, but it is a fairly easy walk. And the walk back to the airport after eating will do you good.
edit: Make that "Southern Soul BBQ".

Thanks for the quick response. I thnk KSSI will be the winner. Great airport, on the coast and looking at pictures of the BBQ joint just sold it. Jekyll Island looks interesting but with no fuel, that would require a second stop.

Thanks for the airports around CLT (fly out of KUZA). I will check them out as well.

If you like bbq, you can't go wrong there. I just looked at their pictures on the web site. You know how so many restaurants have professional photographers dress up their food and photo shop their pics to make them look tempting. Apparently, they don't do that at Southern Soul. The real food looks much better than the pictures.

Pirep requested, might go to SNF this year! We overnighted on Jekyll and refueled at SSI on the way...13JekyllIslandGA.jpg

Another vote for SSI,well worth the stop or overnight.

A little late in posting but wanted to let everyone know that the flight to KSSI went well. The ride down is a little boring, but the airport is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Loved the palm trees and Soul BBQ had good food. Was pretty awesome to fly down and eat BBQ in the sun. It was faster to walk than it would have been to drive, it is that close. One thing to be aware of is that the airport and airspace is very busy. When arriving, we had a twin take off between 2 landings so we had to try to make a little room for them. I'm thinking that one person is a little slow and it gums up the whole works. Also, the CTAF frequency is the same for about 3 airports in the area. You really need to be on your game when flying there. Departure was pretty smooth, we took the runway and departed as quickly as we could, just to get out of the traffic. Would recommend going there for the food, how pretty the area is and to get experience in working in high traffic, high stress environments.

And, if you want to go back, just around the corner to the NW (maybe a 1/4 mile) is Fancy Q's sushi, Gnats Landing, and The Blackwater Grill. All worth exploring. Or if you're there for a late breakfast, Sandy Bottoms Bagels. All of them are within an easy walk of the FBO.

Used to date a girl who lived just a block east of Southern Soul on Circle Dr. There are some good times to be had on the island for sure. It's definitely an anomaly. Many folks who live on the island will tell you that they NEVER go over the Torras Causeway. And they ain't lyin'.

I've never been to KSSI but I have been to Southern Soul BBQ and it's worth the flight alone. When I'm finished getting my PPL I might make the 10 hour flight just to eat there.
