MOSAIC (Modernization Of Special AIrworthiness Certificates) is EAA's legislative reform program, and the January issue of EAA Sport Aviation has a five page article beginning on page 48 on the program and its status. It's a worthwhile read.

How 'bout a summary for non EAA members?

I realize I am requesting some speculation, but I am new to monitoring the FAA changes. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take for MOSAIC to be published for comment and then to be accepted?

I know, that in reality there is no answer to this, but how long did the process take for Basic Med? What about for the initial LSA rules?

I'd guess a minimum of three years, perhaps as many as five.

The first NPRM for Sport Pilot was released in February 2002. The final rules were dated September 2004. Note that we're not even at the NPRM stage for MOSAIC, yet.

As a first time airplane owner of a C120 this is very exciting for me. The first few months have been a never ending headache of beauracacy, I’d love to see maintenance mirroring amateur built like the article mentioned. Would make life a lot easier without risking safety.
