KJVL 2/2/08 - Midwest Get-together

Ind I had to drive back to drop Leslie back at home. We got a call 20 minutes into the trip asking to move the catering gig up to 4:00 from 7:30. There's no way that we could have made it back from Janesville in time to put that together. So I'll be there closer to 10:30 - 11:00. But I'm on my way (again)!

Have fun...I'm staying home. It was a good attempt to get together.

Matt,

Why not fly the 140 to JVL on Sunday, and just continue to UES afterwards? (assuming the wx doesn't suck) There's no airline service closer than MKE, and if ya gotta leave Sunday anyway, ya might as well do it in tail-draggin' style!

Well, Kent, I could never condone the use of personal aircraft for business travel. It just wouldn't be consistent with the litigious, bureaucratic, fun-hating spirit of our corporate insurance policies. ;););)

Bummer! We're out. I hope you have a good time.
I even put on my Gaston's shirt. (disappointed!):blueplane:

One of the people in this picture actually flew here in an airplane! :blueplane:

We had four states represented at the FIRST PoA gathering of 2008! As Mike said, though, only one airplane showed up! The restaurant was good, though. We'll definitely be back to Kealy's Kafe. They're open at 6:00 AM, and they're open for a fish fry on Fridays, too.

With only one airplane, can it really be considered a FLYin? And where's that picture of the "severe" icing I flew through to get there?

We had dinner at the airport (Clow) when I got back, and had 3" of snow by the time we were done!

Where the heck did that snow come from?

We were melting up here and then all of sudden snow!

I just got done clearing out about 4" from the driveway.

You misunderstood the WX.

That can't be snow is 4" of Partly Cloudy.

When parts fall out the cloud they should be white like that, shouldn't they:dunno:

Lance looked cold in that picture. I didn't recognize everyone. Maybe some of the newer people here might like a list of who's who.

Where's Leslie? Is she the one who took both pictures?

Diana, I was on the far left as you are looking at the picture, representing the Wisconsin wing of this quad-state event.

It figures my first PofA flyout was actually a driveout :(, but we all had a great time.

It was a damn good try! Too bad the weather turned against us.

Since Jan 1st there's been ONE weekend with good enough weather to go flying. And now they're forecasting two more snow storms before the weekend!!

Lance seems to have one de-iceer in his pocket; the other is behind him. Wish I could have joined y'all. Looked like Baron weather to me <g>

Best,

Dave

Left to right. Stan, Grant Prellwitz, Mike Andrews, Lance Fisher, Scott Migaldi, Sharon Bockelman, and me with the bad hair, Greg Bockelman. Leslie could not make it. The picture was taken by a friend of Lance's that tagged along.

As Greg said, Leslie couldn't make it, but at least we had ONE woman there! Leslie's absence is explained in post http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showpost.php?p=264362&postcount=122

and the dinner was a success, other than the need to dig out from 3" of snow leaving the airport, then an additional inch as I shoveled back at home! IIRC, Lance's friend has the hangar next to Lance and is named Jim.

It was DEFINITELY not a day I would have felt comfortable flying in, though I admit to being hopeful up until I made the decision. In retrospect, it was the right one!

There seemed to be a fair amount of interest. Another attempt, late April or May, might be worthwhile.

Wow - I actually have met all but one person in that picture! And that one person may get met at Gastons (??)?

Midway is closed to all flights from morning 'til 4PM. Humidity 100% Visibility 1/8 mile, tops.

And we have 6-10 inches more snow due Wednesday. WAHHHHHH!
I can barely see across I-90 from my office. I am on the 4th floor of the building (well 6th floor as floors 1 and 2 are double high) and am just sitting in the ragidy body of this crude.

I get to fly to Pittsburgh on Wednesday - a location not unlike the more glamorous sounding places that Scott flies to. I hope I can get out.

Since only one plane actually FLEW to this, should it be moved to the new Non-Aviation Gathering sub-forum? :)

Here you go. I'm amazed that you made it down alive!:hairraise::hairraise::hairraise:

Anyone up for another try at JVL this weekend? the WX is lookin pretty good

Pete

Can't do this weekend. My bro-in-law is in town for a few days before shipping out to Airborne School at Ft. Benning after which he'll go direct to Anchorage, AK afterwards, so we're all trying to spend as much time as possible with him while he's here.

I wish I could go but both the club's planes are out or grounded for the weekend.
