The wife and I are going to Kauai in March and one of our sons will be on a band trip playing at Pearl Harbor on one of the days. My plan is to rent a plane and fly over for the day. I rented a 172 in Maui a few years ago and it was great.

Does anyone have any experience with Kauai rentals or charters?

I did it the other way around. Rented the plane at HNL and flew it over to Kauai. It was years ago and there was no rental per say on Kauai. That may have changed. Regardless, you'll enjoy the route into HNL. They bring you in right over the top of Pearl Harbor and want you to 'keep it tight'.

Wow. That would be cool. How much of a pain is it to get checked out for the rental?

I did mine at Oahu Aviation. Typical 1 hour or so with a CFI and off you go. Hardest part was pronouncing all the reporting points around the island with Hawaiian names.

I big shout out for Wings over Kauai! Bruce was great. I ended up flying HA to see the band at Pearl Harbor, a long but great day. Today was flying the 172 around Kauai with Bruce. Instead of trying to type after a few pineapple drinks with a lot of vitamin V, I will post a few pics from todays flight.
BTW:They have an opening for a pilot...so tempting but I just don't want to live in a van eating Spam.
