Is there a Maaco of airplane painting?

A buddy of mine just got his Mooney stripped and painted for 8K. I know that's way more than you want to spend, but I'm thinking if they will do a complete strip and paint with multiple colors and metal flake for 8K, they might do the job you want for fairly cheap. Not sure of the painter's name, but I believe he's located at Wiley Post. Let me know if you want more info.

You want to buy my 182?
Please send me the info - thanks.

I keep hearing about $6k paint jobs. I really don't get it. It is a crapload of work, some of which has to be done by an A&P. The stripper is as toxic as it gets and costs money to throw away. I just don't know how anyone can do it at that price point and even pay himself minimum wage.

There's really very little about a paint job that has to be done by an A&P. A pilot can do almost all of it legally under preventative maintenance (see FAR 43, Appendix A, (c)(9)), and literally anyone working under an A&P's "supervision" can do all of it. In the end, the only thing the A&P must do himself or herself is inspect it and sign it off.

It would be prudent for the A&P to be more involved than that, of course. But it would be legal for the A&P to hire some kids who just finished their spray-painting courses at the local BOCES, give them a bit of aircraft-specific training, and have them do the whole job right up to the final inspection and sign-off. And they might even do a good job.

re read this from start to here.
I am glad I have my Grumman now.

Man, for a second there, I thought you had found a clean(ish) Tiger. I have been looking for years for a nice 1979 Tiger with no luck. Only junk or pimpmobiles...

It's funny how a request to find an inexpensive paint job turned into an Inquisition about Bryan's plans and multiple posts that asserted he really didn't want to do what he had planned.

The contributors offered what they would do, since their plans for his future were much better than Bryan's.

Somehow he survived the purchase of the Grumman.

Here's a better timeline:

6PC buys Andrew's Cessna 182 now
Andrew buys an airplane with enough seats for wife and three kids

The question I have is about Andrew. A 182 has enough seats for his wife and three kids, if he isn't going too. Or does he plan in riding in the same plane? :p

Heck, we all fit in it now, but not for much longer.

Cheap paint job equals nightmare. The guy either will do a horrible job, not finish, or it will start peeling off soon after.

Hello
This is two years later so I hope you see it.
If so, could you give the contact information of the painter at Wiley Post?
Thanks
