Market Research Survey - Flying and Aviation (pilots)

Hello,

I am conducting a market research survey, and would appreciate it if any pilots could take
this short survey.

Thanks for your time!
It appears that you are targeting pilots that are using simulators as a training tool. You probably need to differentiate between initial training and IFR training. Simulators are not particularly useful for initial private pilot training. Many on this board, including myself, are VFR only and not IFR rated or currently taking IFR training. This will skew your results.

That's true...thank you! I've updated the survey.

Way to long. I bailed about half way through.

Can you tell us a little about the purpose of this survey?

Hello,

The purpose of the survey is for market research regarding flight simulator usage, and it is conducted by Volarent Simulators.

Looks expensive

Really a very basic made at home sim and a good CFII can do wonders for initial IFR training, it’s all procedures and situational awareness

The target audience is flight schools and not individual sales. The goal of the survey being taken by pilots and flight schools is to gauge pilots perception on the importance of certain features within flight training.

I’d wager that 172 sim is more expensive than many used 172s

Yes, as are most flight simulators. The point is not the upfront cost, but the cost savings over time. You don't pay fuel, maintenance, storage, insurance, or any number of additional large expenses that come along with an aircraft.

I mean I’d make more buying 2-3 C150s or AA1s, and building a desktop sim, for the same price.

To each their own.

Yes, I understand. This isn't targeted to owner-operators though, primarily flight schools, airlines, and universities.

I get that, but shy of a super big flight school, I just don’t see the ROI, especially since most of the flying is PPL and VFR stuff.

But I do get the sim thing, I go to FSI twice a year.

I think you'd be surprised. Many flight schools (large and small) already have sims ranging from $90K-400K all over the country.
