I thought I was a pretty good water skier until

I'd have thought that, being towed by a plane, he'd have more hang time on the jumps.

Cool skills

I spent a weekend trying to get up barfooting about 30 years ago. I think the bruising has finally healed up.

BTW at that time a friend of mine had just been the first person to land a flip bare footing in competition. Man they have come a long way.

Must have taken a million face plants to get to that level of skill

Yeah, I can barely do push-ups on a carpeted floor, much less hanging by a rope by one foot speeding across the water.....and keeping a pair of sunglasses on whilst doing so.

And these guys are so cool they're probably Oakley's too lol, which you can see them almost coming off during the push ups at about 2:20

We used to ski like that as teenagers.....

.....but not on purpose.....

We only knew one speed back then..... full speed.

As impressive as it is, barefoot skiing never looks like fun to me. I’d rather strap on the slalom and run the course.

I am great with mechanical things, meaning i would be happy to drive the boat, but when it comes to my feet, I am about as graceful as a three legged ox. My one and only attempt to water ski was in the Susquehanna River way back before the Three Mile Island Fiasco, yes, I am old. I swear the amount of water I ingested through my nose lowered the level of the river by the time I was done. I can't Skate, with wheels or blades. Can't dance. Maybe it all goes back the the sensitivity of my feet. I cannot walk on gravel and even a small stick on the driveway feels like a huge lego block under my feet. When I was young my mom learned at an early age that all she had to do was take my shoes off and put me in the yard to play. There was zero chance of me leaving the yard if it meant I had to walk on something harder than the soft grass.

I have a good friend who is an incredible barefoot skier. The way to learn is with a boom right off the side of the boat. Trying to learn behind the boat is almost impossible.

So it is still called skiing even with no skis. Couldn’t is just as easily be called tubing without the tube? Or powered body surfing?

:dunno:

Water up the nose was the least worry of were water goes...... at the speed we were going as teenagers water went up somewhere else.....

These guys aren't wearing tight rubber like under britches for style or comfort.....

I could bare foot off the boom, but not from the rope. I would go for a few seconds, then the big toe catches the water followed by the foot contacting the back of the head, then the face contacts the water, butt, face, butt, face sequence several times. After all motion stops and before the boat gets back scramble looking for the shorts I was wearing seconds earlier followed by quickly removing life vest and placing it over a specific area (to protect from sunburn, of course) Ask the boat people to search for shorts, ask for a towel and the ladder to climb in the boat without losing the towel.....

Great fun, this sport of water skiing......

I was wondering how they did the pickup. That pickup off the boat was cool!
