NYC DEP is involved because of the proximity to the Cannonsville Reservoir. The spot where I think the plane crashed judging by the reports is very close to the reservoir's shore and may actually be on reservoir property.

The pilot appears to have been the only soul on board. RIP.

That just north of where I was yesterday. The winds were howling, precip was moderate and icing was worse north of me. God bless.

There were strong winds and limited visibility due to snow where I live at that time yesterday. OAT at about 1,600 ft ASL was hovering around the freezing point.

Sad to hear. :(

Winter brings a whole new set of challenges to us as pilots. Be safe out there!

NYC DEP has identified the pilot as Daniel P. Drew, age 65, of Buffalo, New York.

Daniel held an ATP ASEL/AMEL. He was also an A&P.

There were no other occupants on the plane.

May he rest in peace. I did not fly yesterday. Winds were too strong up here in Montreal and the dew point was only seven degrees Celcius from the ground OAT which meant possible icing as low as 2-3000 feet.

BSBD :(

Accomplished guy too

You out of YUL?

The town of Tompkins is a large area, the accident site is very near Walton, where I just spent a month, where I went to school, learned to fly in that Valley.
Bad weather and the accident site leads me to believe he was skud running in the Valley, He was only 6-7 miles from the Private strip at Walton.
SAD.
