Game 1 begins at 10A EST, between the current world champion, Magnus Carlsen, and the challenger, American Fabiano Caruana. Caruana is the first American to challenge for the World Championship since Bobby Fisher.

Various ways to stream, with commentary, if you’re into that sort of thing.
 
I'll watch, unless there is a curling match at the same time.
 
I was never very good at chess. My colleagues I used to play against whooped me almost every time.
 
I too busy watching the fog and low clouds myself. Maybe another time...

I’ll have to catch the highlights on ESPN tonight, as I’m about to board my Dallas to Orlando flight. I presume you are in attendance?
 
I haven’t played chess in over 20 years though I was half way decent when I was younger. Don’t think I could get into watching it.

I used to be in chess club in 7/8th grade and we had a jock in the club.....dumb as dirt on academics but he always beat me at chess. Man did that **** me off. Maybe it was all a show to be cool to the other jocks.

NASCAR is boring, too, except for their road course races.

Now sports cars? Moto-GP? Or best of all, Outlaw sprint cars on dirt? YEAH!!
 
For a little break from the “boring” jokes...

The second game was also a draw. Of interest, in both games it was black who was pressing and white who had to hold onto the draw.

Today is a rest day. Game 3 tomorrow, same time.

I’ve been watching on Twitch, where a fellow named Jerry does a good job commentating live over his ChessNetwork channel. I usually am working on projects and just have it playing in the background.

For recap, a summary of the first 2 games are analyzed on his YouTube channel, also named ChessNetwork.

See, there you have it. I don't watch auto racing (or chess) for the same reason I don't go to strip clubs. I just never considered any of them spectator sports.

LOL! Having raced sports cars helps me enjoy spectating, as I have a better understanding of what’s happening. OTOH, my personal experience is woefully insufficient for me to enjoy a strip club.

Interesting.

When playing white, I usually open with a king’s gambit. Queen’s gambit forces me to develop the queen earlier than I like. With a king’s gambit, I try to develop the king’s bishop and knight quickly, and then castle early to bring the king’s rook into play. That gets considerable strength into the center of the board early.

But it’s been many years since I played much, and I never did tournaments.

I enjoy pretty much every Motorsport except drag racing and F1, although Monaco can sometimes be entertaining. NASCAR has some serious issues that need to be fixed if the sport is going to survive, but for now they are the most accessible Motorsport for an American. Road courses are my favorite race to watch. I absolutely love to watch ALMS races, but they are hard to find on TV sometimes.

F1 can be boring for any given race, but exciting over a season if you follow all the drama: team strategies, technology, testing and development, etc. I enjoyed F1 when I followed it, but I really followed it. It takes time, though, not something you can enjoy casually.

Still, the best racing is viewed through a windshield, not a TV screen.
