Lobster 747 Off The Runway

At least they didn't have to worry about the fence stuck in the gear this time....... I call dibs on the Garmin 750 in the panel!!!!!!

Thank goodness the lobsters are ok and made their destination without too much delay.

Well its not like you are purchasing a registration with a missing aircraft.

Missing gear, engines, belly skins, antennas, control surfaces........ psssshhh...... hey, at least the paper reg is included on this one!

All the loose parts will be collected and placed in the back seat. It was running when parked, make an offer.

If they were flying lobsters to Halifax, they deserved to go off the end of the runway

They were collecting lobsters. Happily for the lobsters (or maybe not, as it means they'll get eaten) they were rebooked on another flight...

Good thing they got another plane quick, nobody likes crabby lobsters.

Short, wet runway with a strong gusty quartering tailwind. Not a recipe for success. A fellow pilot posted the audio of the incident and it sounded like the controllers were not sure about the situation. They mentioned the wind many times and asked a few times if the crew was okay with the approach and runway to be used.

If I can figure out how to get the tape from WhatsApp on my phone I will post it here.

Pretty much. It appears the aircraft was inbound from Chicago, to pick up lobsters bound for China.

So no lobsters onboard.

Thanks to recent US trade war with China, Canadian lobsters have become even more popular in Asia. It's good business for Nova Scotia but has driven up demand and prices. My Haligonian in-laws complain they can't afford lobster anymore (in recent years you used to be able to pick them up for $5/lb locally).

All those aircraft that landed safely there during 9/11. Duh.

I really don't know why they didn't land into the wind on the longer runway.
The only thing I can think of is a slightly quicker approach to 14 rather than the other runways. Looking at my Jepps for YHZ, choosing 14 wouldn’t make it a quicker taxi for them so that’s off the table.

If you listen to the tower tapes the crew was advised of the wind several times and it was a quartering tailwind. They were asked if they were okay with it and they said they were, strange. The wind was something like 260/16G21.

I thought they crew member on the radio sounded really tired, I wonder how long their duty day had been.

Hi Stickman, I saw that you recently found a Javelin Aux fuel tank for your 180, I have a 55 180 and was looking for one as well. Do you have any leads from your prior search?

Thanks and happy flying.

Marco
