That's right, if you are a veteran or on active duty, your stay at Amelias Landing Hotel is FREE on YOUR day. No strings attached, nothing else to buy.

Amelia's Landing Hotel is an aviation themed hotel in Port Aransas, Texas. Each room is a different era of aviation history, and we have several WWII themed rooms, including the Memphis Belle, Mustang, Flying Tigers, and Lightning Rooms.

If you fly in, we have a courtesy car for you to use. (If more than one fly in, you'll have to share.)

Is that a Willys, or a Ford Jeep?

Amazing what one can do with a bit of tubing, some plywood, a Pringles can, and some black spray paint.

Didn't own an ammo can for .50 caliber rounds, there's a .30 caliber one hanging on it, instead.

Still own the camouflage smock...Rhodesian military, IIRC.

Thanks! If I ever go back to Port A, I'll make sure to give you a holler. Spent lots of time in a little T-34 banging up that pattern, sometimes with the canopy open......

Like all WWII Jeeps, Sparky is a Franken-Jeep. He's a Ford GPW with a Willys engine and other parts.

All Ford and Willys parts were 100% interchangeable, and the boys in the motor pool didn't care which part they grabbed. 76 years on, the only "pure" Willys MBs or "pure" Ford GPWs are the ones built by uber-anal collectors.

I've had a lot of fun restoring this one. It's as close to original as I can make it, right down to the Tommy gun and 30 cal. We love taking it to shows, where kids can play on it till their heart's content!

Well, it should have the stamped ID plate on the right side of the dash. Does it self-identify as a Ford, or a Willys? :)

Back when I got my first jeep, a Willys CJ-2A, in 1970, my Dad told me to get a Willys and not a Ford because parts were impossible to find for the Ford.

I'm thinking this based on trying to buy parts at the *Ford* dealer. The local Jeep dealer always seemed to have parts for my Willys, and of course, they should have fit the Ford GPW as well.

By the way, my father's name? Willys.

Okay, now that's funny!

The data plate on the frame is Ford.

The engine is Willys.

The title is Willys.

The unavailability of Ford parts story is HILARIOUS. By contract, every Ford and Willys part had to be 100% the same and interchangeable, just like the B-24 Liberator parts Ford built for Consolidated. There is no difference whatsoever.

We spent a couple of nights at Amelia's Landing in September, had a great time! Loved meeting Jay and Mary. We stayed in the Flying Tigers room. Loved the Japanese wall hanging, great story behind it.

We went to see the Lexington. Lots of great displays, great food, airplanes, twisty turny ship passageways and here's a picture of the most frightening display there:

Thats great to hear...... We are loosing our American spirit (thanks millennals) so its good to see some still believe.....

FYI.... The Marine Corps birthday is Nov 10th.....

You might want to post this up on the North Texas aviators Facebook group. I bet you would get a lot of takers. Lots in that group seem to have served.
