So, I'm in the midst of finally purchasing an airplane. I've arranged for an extensive prepurchase (as soon as the weather cooperates) this week at a MSC. I've been spending a lot of time researching its history and have even reached out to a couple of the previous owners. I found that the airplane was owned for 42 years by a fellow named George Myers and his wife, Shirley. Researching further I found that George passed away in 2012 and Shirley sold the plane in 2013. I even found this photo of George sitting in the airplane I'm buying...With that info and after researching the FAA records, I thought I had a pretty good picture of everything, except I hadn't been able to find Shirley to see what info I could glean from her.

I'm mostly curious about any corrosion protection that may have been done when the interior was replaced in 2011 (There is a note in the log that seems to indicate that something like that might have been done). Then, I came across this little nugget of info that set me back on my heels...

Anytime you buy a used airplane there's some level of mystery that goes into the purchase. Sometimes talking to the previous owner may not help as memories fade and you can sometimes get incorrect information. If you pull any panels off it'll be pretty obvious if they were zinc chromated or not.

SOB took a kid out with him.

If airplanes could talk... I bet we would get some great stories.

Met him years ago, nice man. Wrote a check he couldn’t cash, sad he took another life with him.

So, @FlySince9 ya still gonna buy it? :frown2:

Wow. The last thing I would do would be to bother Shirley after finding that story.

Yea... My research ends with that tid-bit... I'll leave the rest up to the capable hands of the Mooney Service Center... and the title search company...

Anybody ever tell you that you resemble Geena Davis?

Agree you should be fine with that, although I understand where you're coming from. I too have a tendency to try to dig up every detail of whatever I'm interested in and go to unusual lengths to do so.

Reading your post, I was thinking someone else. Since she did not respond to your comment, I will hold my tongue. I will say, however, that I was just rewatching Top Gun...

curious, where and under what circumstances you met him...

Met him at Moontown a couple times, once when I had an airline layover in HSV. Rented a car and drove there, airport was dead. Another time when they had their Annual Fly-In. Don't remember anything special about him, just chit chat.

So now you have the rest of the story.

Yea, I thought it was a bit risque to mention it. But it was an innocent observation and I hope she did not take offense...

Wait what??? How did I miss all that? You must have added that in an edit. I didn't see it the first time around. The answer is no but I've been compared to Raquel Welch and Ali McGraw. :D I never saw it myself. Keep in mind that was a loooong time ago. I don't look like that now.

It wasn't added... but I'm glad you weren't offended... I was a little worried there...

Not at all. That is very weird, you can see it didn't get quoted where I quoted your post and I have no memory of deleting any of your post. I would have remembered that. But maybe I'm losing my mind.
