I self identify as a doctor. They should call me one too.:D

I’ve been an unlicensed doctor for about 6 months now, as per my signature below, but nobody calls me doc.

Wait a minute, pilots dissing another "trained/educated professional" for letting someone know what their pedigree is???

That's irony if I've ever seen it.

The only thing that could possibly be worse is a pilot who also has a doctorate. I know one....and you'll learn very quickly how much better he is than you when you meet him.

Funny you say that.. I've seen the type for sure.
However, I know one guy who has his doctorate and is a pilot. He's quite the opposite. Anti-ego almost.
He's wealthy, but drives an old Toyota wagon. He'll pull up to people driving a Lexus, and say "you're Toyota is nicer than mine".
Also, he hates when people park in Handicap spots that aren't. He recently got caught breaking the windshield wiper off of a doctors SUV that was parked in a handicap spot (repeatedly). All he did was laugh and say "damn those cameras".

Hilarious guy, but I have to honestly say, I think he's feeding his own ego in a way.

The people who have to hype themselves up and brag about their degrees are most likely those who are insecure in their intellectual ability. I am in a doctorate program right now and have the fortunate opportunity to work with top researchers in the field. The top people are almost always humble and recognize that any one person’s knowledge is necessarily limited. It’s the lower tier researchers who can never shut up about their degrees.

Anyone who thinks their "degree" mandates everyone else title them is delusional. Self absorbed comes to mind.

The worst are the EdD's. I've never met one who didn't insist on being called Doctor all the time, not just in work situations.

Vs the PhDs, MD's, and DO's I know who only expect it in professional settings.

When I got married my ex had to send a new invitation to Mr. and Dr. So-and-so because the loony bird was insulted by Mr. and Mrs. I'm not sure which marriage ended fastest.

I have met a few PH.Ds that insist on being called doctors. And coincidentally, I have met many M.D.s (my wife and brother included) that would prefer not to be recognized by title.

Total ego driven rant.

Those that can... Do. Those that cannot... Teach.
