Southeast Lunch (and beer) Fans

eh, figure since I'll already be there, might as well check this out on sunday after breakfast:

"September Safety Topic of the Month - Stablized Approach and Go Around"

Topic: The outreach will emphasize the best practices regarding stabilized approaches and go around techniques.
On Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 11:00 Eastern Daylight Time
Location:
The Curtiss-Wright Hangar
1402 Jim Hamilton Blvd
The Curtiss-Wright Hangar
Columbia, SC 29205
Select Number:
SO1385228

Description:

The air carrier industry has embraced stabilized approach concepts as a means to ensure safe operations during critical phases of flight. Airline flight crews are trained and tested on establishing and maintaining stabilized approaches and to immediately initiate a go around if stabilized approach criteria are not met. This has led to a dramatic decrease in approach and landing mishaps. General aviation pilots can also increase the safety of their approach and landing operations by adhering to stabilized approach criteria. At this outreach, we will discuss:

  • the magnitude of approach and landing mishaps
  • the benefits of stabilized approach and landing operations.
  • and best practices for exercising the go around option.
We will also encourage pilots to make stabilized approaches and to go around if stabilized approach criteria are not met.

can certainly leave it open. I'd say if u came this far we should probably take you to The Pig. let's touch base as the date gets closer.

Is that BQ1, Gilliam-McConnell Airfield?

2 week count-down. book your rooms if u haven't already!

What time are peeps arriving? I'm thinking of going, but just for the day. Lunch? Dinner? Both and then late night drinking?

I'm signed up for a 5K that morning, but that's at 7:30 am, so not a problem for even being there before lunch. There's also an Angel Flight mission to Savannah; haven't signed up for it yet.

So, looking at options.

dunno what time yet, I'd guess in the 3-5pm range. certainly before the TFR kicks in which I think will be around an hour before gametime.

Where are people staying on a Home Game weekend?

I did Airbnb, the place is about 1.5 miles from KCUB.

I mentioned this in chat with eman but thought I'd post it here as well. The Univ of South Carolina has a home football game that Saturday (9/15). Their stadium is very close to the KCUB. See pic. So along with a bunch of alumni flying in early, there could be a TFR that engulfs the airport. Not sure how that typically works there. Also, the brewery could be very popular that day/night. The game is scheduled for 7:30PM. Damn Cocks.

All that being said, I scheduled a plane for the weekend just in case we all decide to do it anyway.

Skate park?, now that is interesting.... (been wondering if there were any of those within walking(rolling)distance from an airport) :)

Looks like I'm out, due in large part to the Winchester trip I mentioned in another thread.

I’m heading to Triple Tree this morning, I’m the guy with the khaki hat and blonde 6yo daughter. Probably do some fishing.

Edit 9/10/18 - it was a lot of fun, but SUPER hot the whole time. We saw a lot of awesome planes. Also we caught a lot of fish.

less than one week until the washout, uh, hurricane, I mean the KCUB brew-n-breakfastfest. I told my Airbnb I'd make the call on Wednesday, even though I technically have until Thursday.

Ok, who forgot to pay for the good weather? :(

Looks like I am out.. not only because a hurricane is potentially bearing down on us, but because the flightschool cancelled all reservations past wednesday...

The nerve of them....

Just for a hurricane? Sheesh. It might not even make it to Cat 5.

Yeah, I'm going to be watching it too. Forecast is for beautiful sunny weather in Atlanta this coming weekend, but Scattered TS in Columbia. :(

Look on the bright side. Everyone flying from north to south will have a great ground speed!

Are we ready to call it yet? I kind of feel like the right thing to do is free up my hotel room for someone fleeing the coast.

DAMN YOU FLORENCE....

I should be on my way down to Columbia right now.... but noooooo, you had to come to the east coast....

Just have to make due with some beer, babe, and breakfast from where you are at. You did plan an alternate, right?

3 pages deep and I don’t see any jokes about Aunt Flo coming to town.

So, anyone want to reschedule for the next hurricane? I might be back on line by then.
