33rd anniversary and took the Mrs for our first XC to Jekyll Island (09J) for an overnight. Weather both ways, typical summer southeast convective crap. ADSB kicked butt on the way down, showed a path between a couple cells. Not relying on it, but rather just gave an idea that I could get through. Easy to see the rain from the cells and get through to the airport which was clear and calm.

On the way back the ATL area was blowing up. Was considering landing short and waiting stuff out as cells were tight against the NE corner of the Bravo. Asked ATL Approach if it was clear going around the Bravo to the south (KRYY was destination). Approach said yes, but added that another pilot had threaded through OK, and I could dry direct PDK, RYY. Tried it and had a much shorter and smoother path through to RYY. Really a great help from a pretty busy controller.

09J is a fantastic little airport, very nice folks and beautiful location.

Are they still offering the little electric carts at 09J? We were there two years ago and loved it.

90 minutes max on the carts for free for pilots. Need to rent if it's more time than that. We went to lunch with the cart, returned it, then had hotel pick us up at the airport

Which hotel picked you up? When we were there in March, th Holiday In wouldn’t pick us up from the airport. But the guy running the FBO came and picked us up (we arrived after they had closed) and took us to the hotel. A couple days later, they sent someone to take us from hotel to the airport. Great service, wouldn’t take any money when we offered.

That was our first time flying there. Had a great time. Great airport.

Westin was the hotel. They have a shuttle that goes anywhere on the island on demand
