I flew into KCUB today, Columbia SC Downtown, and discovered that Hunter-Gatherer Brewery has opened a Brewery/Taproom located in the Historic Curtiss-Wright Hangar on the field. I’ve been to their brew pub downtown. Looks like they have a Pizza and salad menu only at the airport. Opens at 11:00 on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday.

HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS!

Paging @eman1200 and @Ryanb

(Looking for a designated pilot now) :)

220nm from home base. Sounds like a good trip. Add it to the list @eman1200 !

I’d be honored to take on the role as your designated pilot! ;)

It's been discussed a bunch in a thread on Beech Talk.

I've been to CUB a few times; our youngest is at University of SC. We flew there for the eclipse too.

The Brewery wasn't open then.

I flew to a brewery once and couldn't drink. it sucks.

besides, aren't we already TWO fly-ins behind? we still have Knoxville and triple tree.

And yet again the weekend forecast looks like crap. It seems like this summer is one never ending TS.

I am based at KCUB - H-G is nice, they really did justice to the character of the building. Good place to get a cold beer after a hot flight (or doing maintenance in a hot hangar).

lemme axe you a question...….is KCUB near, like, anything? a hotel, something to do, etc? based on your response, I may have an idea...…….

Whatever it is give enough notice and don't make it breakfast/early. :D

It’s not far from downtown Columbia, which has hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. We have good Uber coverage and the FBO has courtesy cars. It’s a very nice airport.

Airnav reports 19 hotels within 10 minutes. Looking at a map, sounds likely. University of SC campus is 10 minutes away, so there's bound to be a bunch of things..

Aight. So Sept 16th is a SCBC at KCUB. Wonder if we can come in on the 15th so we can imbibe, then do the breakfast club Sunday morning, then go home.

Or, I can just post it, we can talk about it, and then no one can show up.

Ok I am in too... Dammit peer pressure is a #^@&#...

what time we thinking saturday nite getting together?

somebody* needs to find out what hours the brewery is open until.

*I looked up the definition of 'somebody' and it said "not eman". so, I'm just goin by webster, you know.

really cause I just looked it up in Urban dictionary and it said you.... weird.. :D

Question: What is the overall plan for that Saturday, particularly the evening. Thinking in terms of places to stay.

dunno. probably mostly talk about it for the next coupl'a weeks then no one goes. BUT, maybe the silent organizer @Dave Theisen can chime in. I don't know the area at all, but I was just thinking of checking out the brewery sat nite, then stumbling to the breakfast club the next morning. but u bring up a good point, midlife, since the brewery closes at 11, we need to find an after party. so mark, let us know what u find :) I also wonder if we can just ask the brewery to stay open later, if we knew we had more than 1 person going.

I mentioned this in chat with eman but thought I'd post it here as well. The Univ of South Carolina has a home football game that Saturday (9/15). Their stadium is very close to the KCUB. See pic. So along with a bunch of alumni flying in early, there could be a TFR that engulfs the airport. Not sure how that typically works there. Also, the brewery could be very popular that day/night. The game is scheduled for 7:30PM. Damn Cocks.

All that being said, I scheduled a plane for the weekend just in case we all decide to do it anyway.

I just suggested the venue, @eman1200 picked the itinerary! I just booked a room at the Homewood Suites. Not downtown, but not too far away. I guess because it’s a game weekend, all the downtown hotels are $300 plus. Uber does work well there

yeah thats what I was afraid of... a home game in Columbia...

parking could be an issue game wknd... But like you Skydog, I have a bird booked...
