This past week, my wife, kids and I took a 5 day trip from Michigan down to the Dallas Area (McKinney) in the Baron 58. We left last Saturday and returned home yesterday (Thursday).

Weather was eventful in Michigan--both leaving and returning ;) --but the trip was excellent otherwise.

While I was down there I was able to take one of my sisters and her husband up and my other sister and her family up. Both flights were very docile considering they were all (except one sister) first timers; however, that "one" sister, who previously flew with me in our Cardinal RG, asked to accompany me on a fuel run up to Sherman Tx in hopes that I would give her the "exciting" flight treatment. The exciting flight treatment merely included Vy climb takeoffs (we were very light, so the deck angle was pretty severe at 104 kts), a couple steep turns, a descending 360, and a short field landing. I was amazed that she was giddy with excitement before, during, and after. :) She was huggin' me afterward saying how great it was. :)

The real kicker was that my wife finally asked to fly on our flight home--first time ever! :) Atta girl!

Here is a video of the trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMf5clAyz1c

And a couple of pictures (more here: http://www.pbase.com/jlsphoto/family_2007_12_29 ):

Nice report Jeff. A couple of those runways looked like they were only 50'. Was it just a visual and they were long, or were they that width?

Be nice to get the wife more involved......in a few years from now...."Honey, I think we really need the STC for the larger engines, or maybe we should get that King Air 90 we were admiring" (and sell Sheldon our Baron at an unbelievable price.)

Hehe :)

The runways aren't bad, except for where we are based:

First takeoff: 3550 x 60

St. Louis: 6997 x 100

McKinney TX: 7001 x 100

Let me work on my wife to get the King Air and then we can talk about the Baron. ;) :D

Jeff nice looking family nice looking plane and great video. I always like the two handed death grip of non pilots on the yoke. Looks like it was a great trip.

At least with regard to my brother-in-law, he had the big sh** eating grin on his face along with the two handed death grip.

Excellent video, and a lovely family! Looks as if your daughters take to flying like most take to just driving. Great job.

Sorry I wasn't here when you came down Jeff. It would have been fun to link up. Addison, where I'm based is just a short hop in you're plane! Glad you had a nice trip.

Best,

Dave

I understand--you heard I was coming down and you scooted out east! My feelings aren't hurt......much. ;)

Thanks, Jim.

I have spent many years brainwashing them in this whole flying thing. :D They actually say they want to be pilots one day.....go figure. ;) (My master plan is unfolding. ;))

Heck, this trip even resulted in three new people at the controls (sister, brother-in-law, and wife!) and five people who had their first "small" plane rides. :D

Nice Jeff. Prolly my favorite video of yours yet. Any chance on your wife taking lessons now?
Thanks, Brook.

We're taking baby steps. ;) She flew the Baron twice for about 10 minutes total and has now started tuning the radio when we are handed off to another controller. That ain't no small thing for her. :)

Thanks, Jeremy.

way cool Jeff, I wish I could figure out an unobtrusive camera for the cockpit, it would be nice to share some of my sights too.

Great pics and fantastic video. You show a true love for the TRIP. A fun time had by all.

I agree with the others, nice video Jeff. My wife is just learning to input freq and alt settings.

Good job, WT.

Great video Jeff. I wish my landings looked that smooth!

I just LOVE the music! What was the second Sting song? I've never heard it before.
