Had a nice flight to Laughlin/Bullhead City with my dad today. I've flown over Bullhead, but never landed there. Flew out at 8,500. Basically flew over Wickenburg and up the US93, then shot over towards Bullhead City before Wikieup. Never went that way, so wanted to try something a little new.

Met a nice fella at the airport (retired Navy pilot/retired Continental Airlines pilot) who drove us to the river ferry. We ate breakfast at the Riverside Restaurant. Had a pretty decent omelet. Signature FBO was very nice (not a huge fan of Signature's prices, but no ramp fee and bought fuel to the tabs. Good coffee.

Took off around 10AM, flew up Lake Havasu, then over Lake Alamo and followed Lake Alamo road (dirt road) up to Wickenburg and back to Deer Valley. Flew at 9,500. Nice and smooth, although it got nice and bumpy on the descent into Deer Valley.

Currently at 199.8 hours. Doh! Should have flown another 0.2 hours.

Going to fly down to Ryan tomorrow (solo). Haven't been down there since my PPL Cross Country.

Everytime I think about flying to Havasu, it's at least 110...then I quickly change my mind.

It was 108 when I landed in Deer Valley. Wasn’t bad at until I started getting below 7500 or so.

I was wheels up at 0700 this morning with my trainee who got his rating yesterday. We flew from Tucson over to Benson then up to San Manuel where we did a low approach and then on up and around to the Biosphere and back into Tucson. 1.7 total and he flew most the way. We should have flown earlier since it started getting bumpy on the way back. Funny thing is that all the controllers I talked to today, I've worked with. "Tower Cherokee 5660U holding short of one one left at delta, ready to go." "Is this Tim?" :)

If you fly into Ryan tomorrow I know three of them there. Drop my name and you'll get a free trip around the pattern. ;)

Real nice on-field restaurant at Havasu. Only problem is they don't open until 11 am, and I'd want to be out of Dodge by that time of day to avoid the heat.

Really? I’ve been to that restaurant much earlier than 11...maybe they changed that

That may be a possibility. ;)

edit: The above is an example of what may happen when you don't bother to quote the person of whom you are responding to or the notion that your lightening quick typing skills will result in a post directly beneath your intended recipient.

“You know that fella TimBeck2?” Lol

What’s the biosphere

Are you planning on stopping at Ryan for breakfast? Although I'm working and can't join you, the diner there is really good. However I was just there a few days ago and they only took cash as their card reader was nips North.

Well in my defense I only ate breakfast. I mean, how can anyone screw up breakfast food? I had the crispy chicken chef's salad the last time I was there and it was good.

No I was just gonna do a touch and go or full stop taxi back. Although I’ve been meaning to try the diner.

No No No No No...file a return trip IFR. Get lots of practice. Make your mistakes in VFR. There's a nice pilot lounge next to the restaurant to think about your return flight.

I ain’t got time for that! Lol jk

I’m thinking DVT1 PXR TFD ALMON. Obviously I can’t shoot any practice approaches since I will be solo. Plus I can’t do any of the approaches at KRYN with my equipment. KDVT tower doesn’t open till 6 so I will likely call flight service

They are back up and running at Richies at Ryan, had an issue with Verizon. The food has gotten much better in the last few months, especially since his other place in town closed, he is more focused here. But have enough fuel to pass here, $5.15 a gallon, the most expensive around. All us locals go elsewhere, the guy does nothing to support us.

I know the guy who owns the fuel pump at Ryan. He won't get a dime from me.

You can shoot an ILS can't you? Just ask Tucson approach for vectors when you get handed off to them.

ILS at Ryan says ADF required so I figured I couldn’t shoot that. Plus I don’t have a safety pilot.

Your saying I could ask for vectors in lieu of the ADF?

I can just do visual tho

Agreed Tim, he also got that contract with no bid (from what I was told by a business who wanted to bid on it) , funny how things work sometime...

I just wish we didn't share the same first name. Among my friends who know us both, I'm known as "good Tim." :)

edit: dang it! Twice in one thread. The above was in response to Glenn's post.

Yes. Just request vectors for practice ILS. This is all predicated that you're in VMC the whole time and it's forecasted to stay that way.

Interesting. Well I’ll have to try that out sometime with my dad as safety Pilot.

I may have oversimplified my description, Mark.

I visited it when the people were living in it. They were supposed to be sealed up in that thing for two years. I don't know how long they lasted until someone almost cut their finger off and they had to get a doctor in or them out, I forget which.

I just assumed you would want to practice the ILS too. You would not have to shoot an approach.

I totally would but I don’t have a safety Pilot for tomorrow. It’s just me. I could at least file and fly in the system though and then do the visual

I used to fly into Laughlin frequently years ago. Arrive, call up Edgewater and they would come and get me. Sit at their long bar and look at my plane across the river

Good times

So did you see any bullhead there? Is that the birthplace of bullhead fish or something?
