The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
A flight tracking app is available for those passengers who want a moving map during their flight but don't know about or don't need an EFB such as FF or GP.

Free to download and try. US$2.99 to purchase.

Free version does not show speed or altitude. The purchase shows that info.

Note: I have not used this myself, yet. But thought it worthy to share.

Speaking of this subject. Last October I flew on United and had our route plugged into ForeFlight. It was pretty dang cool to watch the aircraft make the exact turns as we crossed over the waypoints.

I have done that too after grabbing the cleared route from FlightAware. It is cool to observe the flight, and also catch when ATC provides a shortcut.

Just wish we had the opportunity to listen in on ATC as the flight progresses.

Yeah that would be cool. There have been times where I’ve purchased the onboard WiFi and listened to various frequencies on LiveATC. Works decently.

I guess bringing a handheld or scanner onboard would be frowned upon...

United at least used to have ATC audio available as a channel in the armrest headphone plugins. Although it only aggravated me the one time we diverted to an alternate 30 seconds after the pilots told ATC we could hold for another 30 minutes, just to have the other aircraft in the hold get cleared for approaches before we even got turned on course. One more minute in the hold we would have been number two on the approach.

One could argue that it would have been uncool for the aircraft not to have done so.
