What a rip off

Part Number: 13889. Description: Cone - Bearing. Vendor Code: CFP. Nose wheel bearings used on my 150, which uses a Cleveland 40-76 model wheel since day one. Clip is from my parts manual.

Why so hard to believe?

Not hard to believe what Cleveland calls for a part number.

What wheel came with a new Cessna? Weren't Cleveland wheels and brakes an up grade actually needing an STC once upon a time?

Do you know the difference between a OEM Cessna wheel and a Cleveland?

and which one can use a timken?

Maybe you are thinking McCauley wheels?

Depends on the aircraft. Mine came with all Cleveland. The parts manual shows them.

Who bought the McCauley company, production certificates and all?

"
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this Advisory Circular (AC) is to provide guidance on the use of replacement bearings that are equivalent to, but differ from those specified in the approved type design. While this document applies to bearing substitution in general, it is of primary interest with regard to bearings in aircraft instruments."

"While this document applies to bearing substitution in general, ...."

And from within the document ...

Some examples of bearing replacements, which would constitute a minor repair, are:

bearings in gyroscopic instruments; and

bearings in landing gear wheel assemblies."

So yes, to put to rest the question, I just paid $120.00 for 4 bolts and shipping. That's better than paying the widow.

So what happened to the $8 bolts from Fresno? Not available?

they are not 8 bucks, Order one and see what hey charge :) but I hope they are here today.
Bolts were on time, we got 8 and a data tag, $106.60 really not all that bad, shopping around works. thanks for the link to. Fresno air-parts.

sounds cheap....:D
Sounds that way, but is it? after all they are only a grade 8 bolt with a safety wire hole. ACE hardware sells grade 8 1/4"X20 bolts for 56 cents each I put a safety wire hole in it for free.

I like the way 1 1/2 inch ID bearingsets need to be super precision to tolerate quick acceleration to a whopping 1400 rpm on landing. Ridiculous!

14000 rpm on the space shuttle might be different, but.........

so...are they black oxided bolts?

Sucks having standards, huh? ;)

Well, it continues to act up, squeaky rear brakes because the calipers are sticking, pads getting worn again. My solution has been to disassemble the rear brakes, clean the calipers, exercise them, lubricate, and reassemble. This typically lasts 3 months or so before they start sticking again.

So I call Bush Hog, "do you have caliper rebuild kits?"

"Uhhhh, no...but we sell the calipers."

"How much?"

"$500"

EACH!

On top of that it's $90 for pads, EACH SIDE!

So, $1,200 to put new rear brakes on a Bush Hog side-by-side if I decide to go that way

Oh....$1,800 if I decide to get new rotors too.

I think I'll keep doing what I've been doing.

And they fully admit that they've known this is a problem since day one (and they admitted it 3 years ago also when I went thru this with them the first time).

"Sooooo...no recall? Or at least steeply discounted parts since they all do this and you know it's YOUR problem?"

"Nope" says the customer service guy "all I can do is apologize and tell you that I feel your pain because I own one too."

"I currently have 6 pieces of Bush Hog equipment sitting around and have owned numerous others. Good companies take care of good customers. You, sir, do not work for a good company. I have likely purchased my last Bush Hog product."
