A month ago it was all over the news; in St. Louis, in Springfield, on the national news, EVERYWHERE!!

And...Heyyyyyy!!!! We had a new royal baby. And it was a royal freakin' boy!!! They all spent A LOT of time covering it.

And now, it's all over the news again; in St. Louis, in Springfield, on the national news, EVERYWHERE!!

And...Heyyyyyy!!!! We're having a royal freakin' wedding!!! They are all spending A LOT of time covering it.

What am I missing? I thought we fought the revolutionary war so we didn't have to give a mini-micro-sh*t about such royalty garbage.

To quote Ronnie Reagan...talk about "welfare queens."

Mind boggling and stomach churning.

I’ve thought this way for a long, long time going back at least to when the now dead chick married the goof faced prince dude and so many Americans went all gaga over it. It’s even worse now.

In 1776 we told royalty and England to eff off and then beat their ass in two wars. Then of course we had to help bale them and the rest of Europe out in two other wars. They deserve neither our respect nor our admiration let alone all the adoration that gets poured on them by all of the putrid anglophiles in this country.

Disgusting.

Be careful saying stuff about "Di" around Canadians. We all know it's just the 51st state, but they think they answer to the Royal family.

They royal family is still admired, even in America. That does not mean we want them to be our monarchs. What is difficult to understand?

It's the same reason I don't watch Entertainment Tonight, read People magazine, or place my self worth in any sports team.

I don't need an entity to make me feel like I have worth and I find it sad that so many do.

Who said anything about it being tied to people’s self-worth? Folks have different interests. So what?

The part that is difficult for me to understand is why they are so admired. I just don't get it, but whatever excites people is their own business.

And not only why are they admired but why is the media so obsessed with all of it? The coverage is nonstop. That’s what really irritates me. If some individuals are enthralled by royalty that is their business as repugnant as I might find it. But I find the fact that the US media and even US political figures are so obsessed to be really sickening.

The media knows what people want to watch. They sell advertising.

Well, I’d think it would be based on what the majority of people want to watch. If the majority of people want to see all of the royal nonsense then this country and its citizens are worse off than I imagined. I flip the tv channel every time the subject comes up.

Yep, I’m a major hater when it comes to this.

Of course, I also am the same way when it comes to coverage of the pope, during the Billy Graham nonsense, the hoopla surrounding sporting events, hollywood awards ceremonies, etc. The way people fawn over celebrities is odd to me. I have never understood it.

The British admire their Royals for the same reasons we admire our useless celebrities. The only difference is we have the bad habit of electing them to high office. At least the Royals are ceremonial Heads of State.

This rant is of a peculiar Don Quixote nature typical of the average or below average POA poster. As such it rates little or no merit since it actually calls attention to the very topic the rant proclaims to reject. As such not only is it a "me against the world" rant but it is a "look at me against the world" rant. As such one can only condemn the rant and regret the waste of internet bandwidth.

Well, at least the latest stuff has to do with an American (Meagan Markle, actress) who is marrying into the British Royal family.

Well I think though, with the right spin, meaning the correct spin, not implying a political bent either way, this rant could be salvaged. Perhaps a bit more background drama and psychological discourse.

Could be salvaged? could be salvaged? We're talking raise the titanic here. Some wrecks are better left on the bottom of the ocean.

Some sports fans are just fans, some place their entire existence into the hands of their teams. This seems to be especially true of college football fans in areas that don't have a pro team. Alabama and Kansas fans come to mind first. These people are particularly rabid.

One bumper sticker is simply a fan. A dozen, especially when thy have signs in their yard also, is rabidity!

And rabies is deadly!

No, no, Clark. This thread isn't about cinco de mayo. That was a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed. I enjoy watching some sports and there are even some teams and individuals that I enjoy seeing win more than others. But if they lose, it’s more of an “oh well” with me versus the gnashing of teeth, crying, and depression that the fanatics display. I never understood that. And I especially never understood the riots and fights that break out after a game, especially a championship one. It’s just a game.

The funny thing is the British Royals are indeed the Heads of State. The Queen is the actual Head of State, and she acts like it. That allows the Prime Minister, who is the actual head of the government, to catlike a political without embarrassing everyone. Our problem is the POTUS is both the Head of State and the head of the government, at least one of the branches thereof. However, he's also a politician, which can get squeamish for half the population depending on who's in the Oval Office.

holy crap...Why did you have to remind me? I got so freakin' tired of hearing about "Camelot" at that time.

And besides, Charles is/was monkey butt ugly. It's quite obvious he was the product of a long line of "royal family" with too few branches on the family tree. Why any woman fantasized about that sh*t back then is beyond me.

At least Harry seems to be a somewhat attractive young man. Can't say that about his older brother. That boy looks way too much like his dad.

More examples of money buying "love".

The UK paid off its war debt (WWII) to the US, and the UK paid off WWI war debts as well. Some of those debts went back as far as the Battle of Waterloo.

Note: Everything we gave the UK for WWII was essentially free, but the US loaned the UK a lot of money and the UK paid back double the amount borrowed.

Sometimes I wish the Royals would go back to having Halter Top Day.

I was just looking for a new KC fitted ballcap yesterday, lol. I'll have to see if the wife will wear a halter top, but that's asking for someone to lose an eye.

Still looking for the picture of the little old lady sitting in the stands wearing the halter top on her head like a sunshade.

Being British....I don't like the Royals nor do most of my extended family...although I cut Harry and William some slack and they both served and are accomplished Aviators...I hold the distinction of being the first British Apache pilot...while in the U.S. Army....its been worth a few pints over the years...My very American wife and two daughters, well they are captivated by the process.

We are still trying to get rid of them and now with Brexit, it's going to be a bigger cluster.

I heard that William and Kate were initially planning to name their latest rugrat Brexit.

You know...because they thought it was a good idea when first conceived but then came to realize that it was going to completely ruin their lives.

;)

Excellent point I was going to make this point and happy to see you have. Their Monarch is not simply a celebrity, he or she is a hereditary head of state. I think Americans have more of an issue with the “hereditary “ part.

I don’t mind the whole hereditary thing so long as they aren’t in charge of anything.

So the main stream media has nothing better to follow, all last week the major stations ,have been showing you how to pour tea properly. Just gives me more incentive to go out and fly.

Did the Bride’s father start this rant? Is that why he isn’t going?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Cheers
