Hello Pilots of America!

Blackbird is a "Flight Sharing" marketplace that is venture backed and based in California. Our core product is to sell individual seats on a Part 135 Chartered flight. We are working on a project that touches on part 91 aviation and are looking for a private pilot or a private pilot-in-training to work with us part time (or perhaps full time) over the next couple of months. The project is focused on helping us figure out how best to connect with the private pilot community nation-wide. Please contact me here or email me at james@flyblackbird.com.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,
James

This would be a remote position. The first 1-2 weeks would be at the strategy level. We would work together to define the appropriate messaging and channels for reaching out. The next couple of weeks would be about testing those channels and messaging with the pilot community and adjusting. The last few weeks would be about executing the outreach plan and helping us field inquiries that come through. Does this answer your question @SkyDog58 ? I'm happy to connect live if that helps.

@eman1200 Got it! We currently work with multiple 135 operators to deliver the flight service. Most of our flights are currently on the West Coast but we are expanding nationally. A customer downloads our app and is able to find the destinations we fly, the schedule and the prices.

At this time I’d be more interested in hearing about what sort of services that you’d be offering to private pilots or the services that you’d want the pilots to provide. I’d like to know that before getting involved in your strategy sessions.

Connecting to the pilot community is easy..... Lots of traditional and social media outlets for that....

Overcoming their skepticism in light of the other "ride sharing" attempts that have come and gone is going to be the big challenge.

You also have a significant regulatory hurdle.

PS. We may need/want to move this into the other forums. Discussing what is and isn't permitted per the FARs may not be permitted per the Classifieds Forum rules.

Thanks @AggieMike88 . I agree, we're not trying to have a full discussion on FAR regs here. I reached out to the moderator and asked where the best place to post this would be and they said the Classifieds channel.

True for the job posting.

But the nature of your beast will attract discussion of the regulations.

Part 135, not an issue in regards to flight sharing. Quick glance at it, looks like it's really nothing but the traditional scheduling system. The flights as well as origin/destination are already defined. This is a variation of an assignment I give my database students. The only difference is the OP wants an app.

From a database POV, it's inventory/sales model. Flights & seats are the inventory. As something is used (the sale), it's removed from the inventory. As a software development, it's amusing, and there's really no need for pilot knowledge.

For the Part 91 - well, I don't think any of us want to get into that legal hassle. Pilot knowledge isn't a criteria if I'm reading it correctly. Unfortunately, around here, we tend to equate Part 91 as GA spam cans, when Part 91 is really much larger (charters, etc) but still a hot potato.

What on earth is a Part 91 charter flight?
