DATE CHANGE -- 12/8/07... MGY, USAF Museum, and Barbecue!

All,

I've just had a pop-up trip to London come up (yesterday, in fact) - I have to be in London through Friday and will not be back at MGY in time to host.

How does 12/8 look for people? It's the weekend following, a Saturday, and the weather date would be Sunday...

Thoughts? Sorry to change on everyone so quickly!!

Cheers,

-Andrew

12/1/07 - MGY (Dayton - Wright Brothers / Montgomery County airport)

Fly in 12/1, we'll drive up to the National Museum of the Air Force, and afterwards, eat some barbecue back at my humble abode. My wife is out of town and I'm left alone for three weekends straight, so...

Weather date will be 12/2 OR 12/15. If enough people are interested, I can rent a van and we can cost-share for the trip to/from MGY. It's approx 20 minutes to the museum from here.

Who's interested? I know that a certain Mooney driver will be in a club plane for this event...

Cheers,

-Andrew

Hmmm never been to the USAF museum. Might make for a good excuse to go flying.

Pete

The USAF Museum is easily one of the best aviation museums in the world! You can easily spend an entire day there.

Make sure you have LOTS of time to spend at the museum. You could spend a week there. So much to see, so little time....

Does MGY have commercial service? If so, I'll do my best to get the time off...if not, where's the nearest airport that does?

KDAY has commercial service. I'd say it's maybe 20mins from Wright-Patt.

KDAY is the closest. I think your co serves CMH, which is about an hour away...

Cheers,

-Andrew

We do, indeed, serve CMH, but I can ride on anyone so if I (and possibly the fiancee) can come, we'll probably shoot for DAY.

See the date change notice at the top... not sure if people will get an instant email for this!

May not be able to make the 8th. Prop shop is now telling me they should be able to take my prop the first week of December. Will know the week after Thanksgiving.

Hey Pete,

I got the plane... Wanna swap some hood time? If I end up not being able to go, the plane's yours.

Alright... after two weeks on the road, and an overnight in the hospital (thank you ear infection and airline flight), I've got some plans put together.

Aviation Sales, Inc, one of the FBOs at MGY will let us use a classroom for lunch on the field. However, they'd like some gas business in exchange (and it isn't exactly cheap - $4.75/g) Would anyone be putting some gas in the tanks at that price?

So, I was thinking -

Everyone arrives 10:45-11:15. I'll have pulled pork sandwiches ready with some slaw or similar side, and a mix of sodas/water. Lunch, depart for the museum ~12:15, spend a full day there. This would mean a night departure and return for most guests.

I could see if we can do a lunch up at museum, they may have a facility there, to maximize how much time we can spend gawking at the collection Wright-Patt has.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,

-Andrew

Dang, they picked up my prop yesterday. Oh well, at least they say they will have it back it 2 weeks. We shall see. Ya'll have a good time.
Ron

We are still talking about this Saturday right?

I got scheduled for a flight on Sunday but I still have the day before open. I am pretty sure, if WX cooperates, that I would be good for a 11am EST arrival on Saturday.

Yes, if they provide the facilities, I'll buy the gas. They are $0.50/g higher than our base here, so it isn't all that out of whack. I'd need about 20g.

Everyone arrives 10:45-11:15. What do you guys think?

If WX is good, I'm there!

Provided we don't get another snow storm this weekend I'm planning to still go.

Too far out to tell for sure, but the progs show a mess starting in the Rockies, and being over Iowa on Thursday night. Depends on how quickly it moves, I suppose. :dunno:

I'm out. Have a family event w/my dad that's cropped up at last minute.

Y'all have fun.

Yup, this weekend Scott.

They will provide a classroom inside the building for us to use. I'll provide the pork and beverages, now I have to lock down the rental van.

Can I get a roll call of who's in? So far:

Scott Migaldi
Pete / vontresc
Bill Jennings

Gonna need a count to know how large a van to get (currently, we are in my Acura)

Cheers,

-Andrew

Also put Kent on the list, as he actually has the reservation for 71G :)

Pete

OK:

Kent Shook
Pete / vontresc
Bill Jennings
Brent Johnson

Scott... I'll wait for your confirmation if Saturday works.

Weather looks up in the air right now... we just got 4" of snow here, and that system over the Rockies should start pushing in Saturday night:

Saturday does work for me. I'll plan on it. Looks like a 2.25 hour flight for me with an hour time change. So I will leave by 7:30am CST. I hope the WX holds, it has been killing me since early November, my last flight was a month ago.

Argh! This is not looking good...

Ugh indeed, ground temp of about 7C, so freeze level a little over 2000agl, with lots of precip? Ugh.

If it were colder all the way down, the snow wouldn't stick... but this sounds like wet snow, not dry snow.

Welcome to the midwest.

Yes, tough to really plan on doing a cross-country flight. Sorry I can't join you guys, duty calls. I hope it works out though.

As an FYI, I'm going to make a go/no-go Friday night. While I don't question the judgement of anyone on the list, I'd prefer to just make the call earlier.

If there is an airmet/icing, IFR with the freezing level questionable, or any precip I'll call it right here, Friday night, for the 00Z TAF run.

Sound fair?

Cheers,

-Andrew
