No matter what option I choose, access to an aircraft rental is an hour plus drive at KJWN. 66 miles one way. I'm thinking of joining a club roughly the same distance up in KY.

Anyone driving an hour plus to fly?
 
No, the hangar is about 15min from my house, if I land infront of the house and beach up, the plane is about a 100' from the master bedroom.

Back when I lived in the city, think it was like a 30-40min drive.
 
I live on the opposite side of town from my home drome, but it’s only about a 20-25 minute drive depending on traffic. I don’t mind it...most days.
 
Sometimes. My regular home base is 35 minutes; the next most common one I use is 40 minutes. But I sometimes fly out of one a bit over a hour away.

I miss my time in Denver, in part because the airport was 3 miles away.

30min for me anytime except rush hour, then add 15.

Yes. The Cub is about 1.25 hrs away.

BTW: I really like your airport. Been there a number of times visiting family in Nashville. May be there again in April.

30 minutes house to hangar. That's on the verge of too far away for me. I would be inclined to fly more on a whim if I was closer. As it is sometimes I talk myself out of going because it's 30 minutes away then another 30 minutes before I'm airborne. I have an airport closer, like to the tune of 12 minutes away but I would pay more to keep plane there and lose having a hangar. So....I stay where I am. Having a hangar for $125 trumps having a closer open bay for 150!
 
In PA, I was about 15 minutes from the airport. It was also right on the way to/from work which made it easy to stop in if I wanted. However I also flew a Navajo at another airport that was 90 minutes away.

In Ohio, I was about 30 minutes from the airport. 30 minutes to the airport from home, 30 minutes to work from the airport, 30 minutes from work to home.

Now I'm about 40 minutes from the airport from my house on the weekends when I normally go, and 20-30 minutes from the office if I run by at lunch.

The drive to the airport doesn't bother me, but I usually am going there to then go on a long trip or else spend some time there. I do wish it was easier to make quick trips to pop in, but it's not enough of a deal that it restricts my activity. In fact, I like my setup at the current airport enough that it would be fairly difficult to convince me to move to an airport closer to home.
 
15 minutes from home to airport.
20 minutes from home to work.
20 minutes from work to airport.

I need to skip work more often.
 
35 min on weekends, can be over an hour in weekday Atlanta traffic
 
I live in Nipomo, California; ten miles and a twenty minute drive from Santa Maria Public Airport (KSMX).

I feel the drive is aviation foreplay and the drive home is aviation afterglow.
 
5 minutes right now, have had drives of around 12 back in my last duty station. I won't own an airplane farther out than 20 minute drive accounting for traffic. Matter of fact, we re hoping for a transfer this summer and airport availability is pretty bad (city). So we went back and forth but decided when the time comes we re gonna move to an adjacent town where my drive to the airport is less than 15 minutes, and eat a 30-35 minute work commute, instead of the opposite. I work to live, not the other way around.
 
30 minutes from home, but only 5 minutes from work, which makes for some nice afternoon flights.
 
15 Min. or 25 Min. depending on where the aircraft is parked...
 
4 minutes coat on to coat off, but only cause we have to drive around the runway. Life is good!

5 minutes if all lights green, 15 minutes if I get caught at all of them. Guess which happens more often. 4 miles straight through town, 7 traffic signals.
 
30-40, depending on if I want to pay the toll. If I do, I can be VFR airborne in 45 min. Still too far. The 15 minute away airport has no available hangars.

Why are you keeping it in SMX?

Lots of homies in SMX and it's basically illegal to defend yourself in CA, not a good risk assessment.
 
20-30 minutes, depending on DC traffic. Our place in the Outer Banks is a 10 minute walk from the airport. Not winning this game, but certainly not complaining either.
