[Video] “I will be your cop captain for the day...”

A friend of mine who lives in Iowa was a sheriff's deputy before he became a pilot. Much to his chagrin he had to totally relearn the phonetic alphabet.

I’m a cop AND a pilot. It sucks trying to keep the two alphabets separate.

Yeah, my first flight training was when I was 16, so I had the pilot phonetics down pat. Then I started cop work and had to re-learn it all cop style. Why the cops thought we had to re-do the phonetic alphabet is beyond me. I thought the military did a pretty good job. Then I started flying again and had to re-learn pilot phonetics again. Geez, back and forth, back and forth!

Ya ever hear the guys on the police radio that forget the “cop phonetics” and start making them up? Hilarious!

I never could figure out why police departments didn’t switch to the standard phonetic alphabet years ago.
