Hello! I have a quick question please! I am trying to gather at least 20 pilots to agree that they would do something like this hypothetically. How many private pilots out there would be willing to either build hours by splitting expenses, or casually fly a couple "strangers" to a destination and split costs, or would simply love an excuse to fly, by using a friendly App that was similar to uber but for no actual pay obviously being private.. I know some one tried this before and failed via FAA, but I have a cool counter concept I want to bring to the table! Anyone?! Yes?! Thank you in advance!!! Rick-Private pilot C172+J-3 200+hrs PIC

*Also just so everyone knows, this is only to prove pilots would be willing to do this, so I can show it to potential investors.. Hard to explain to individuals that are not in the aviation world. Just reaching out and looking for some good luck!! Thanks!'

I’m not sure I’d be willing to fly with someone dumb enough to agree with this on a public Internet forum.

OP, why don’t you call the AOPA and ask their opinion, and also whether their insurance arm would be cool with it? Come back and let us know what they tell you.

Money is not the only compensation, as defined by the FAA.
Next, I never allow anyone in my airplane (other than than the shop guys and Young Eagles) that I don't know.

Fail. But thanks for playing.

Let me just say that as genius of an idea as this seems, you’re about the 1378th person to think of it.

The FAA says NO! :fingerwag:

I've some land in Florida in which your investors may like to invest.

You can try and parse it all you want but the end result will be "no" from the FAA.

At the core is the concern over the risk to the public from pilots and aircraft that are not held to the standards required by legal air carriers.

You can read the actual rules here, but be warned, they may seem to allow some form of what you are suggesting. It is the FAA's clearly defined ruling on this that they do not:

https://www.faa.gov/regulations_pol....cfm/go/document.information/documentID/22647

Asking people if they will “hypothetically” break the law on a public forum, when the facts of whether or not that’s what you just did so are readily available to anyone with a web browser and Google... places your judgement skillset and ability to run a company far in doubt, before you ever even talk to any “investors”. LOL.

Yeah. I bet you’re having a hard time pitching it. No doubt. Hahaha.

We are on an internet forum. We are not all that private.

Even if you could get the FAA to go along, I don't think many pilots would want to start taking random people as passengers, and I don't think many passengers would be interested in flying in our airplanes.

First of all, getting 20 pilots to agree on anything - good luck.

Second, without a "common purpose", splitting costs tends to upset the overlords.

Now throw in two A&P’s on, say, an Aviation forum and stand back...

Thanks for all the input! Love the humor as well, again this was just a thought.. Someone will find a loophole eventually, I just hope it's me.

The loophole is to have friends who want to fly places with you and are willing to share expenses.

That’s not the kind of rack I was thinking of..what are we looking at here ?

My house wiring, network switches, TV tuners to record TV, cable modem, firewall and file server.

We need to stop by and teach you how to cable dress things... and what are those devices hanging from their cables?! LOL.

That’s not wiring. That’s a rat’s nest! ;)
