My dual Garmin G5 install is done.

It's in a 172, coupled to an STEC 30 + ALT autopilot, interfaced to a 430W.

I know there is interest in a video since there isn't much online for the DG G5, but I'm unsure of what all to film.

Your suggestions, please.

A pic would satisfy, for now...an appetizer of sorts.

A video of one that had overlays?

Seems a waste of a EHSI if you can't do overlays, airports, waypoints, wx, etc

Might as well throw in synthetic vision.

On a 3” display...yuk, talk about cluttered, it’s an HSI, not a moving map display.

Intercepting and tracking a GPS approach to minimums at the airport of your choice then fly the missed. Note: LPV preferred.

Magnetic heading tracking via autopilot.

Your setup is identical to the one in the airplane I might buy today, minus the G5s. Looking forward to seeing the review, as I'll be looking at upgrading my panel in a year if I do buy it!

3" is more than enough, I love my eHSI in my plane and the one in the work plane too, IMO the overlays are the whole point of using a screen for a HSI.

Start up with the unit, a GPS (or ILS) approach (doesn't have to be in IMC), and any other fiddling done with the unit each flight. Just curious to see normal operations with the unit.

It uses same interface as the GTNs and Garmin Pilot, hardest part is not trying to press the screen buttons, you use the knob.
The user guide is available to download and relatively short.

I've read through everything I can find...would just like to actually see one in action. I have experience with an Aspen PFD, so would like to experience the differences a little.

No thanks to the overlays. Even at work I prefer to leave the HSI uncluttered, and I dislike the nav format option (in which the plane and course are portrayed on the HSI -- that's what an MFD is for!) Occasionally I'll put weather radar or terrain there, but that's about it.

This may be the future of the HSI but for now I'm a bit curmudgeonly about it. I just don't like seeing a bunch of extra information there. An iPad mounted on the yoke ought to give everything you need in the same format with a much bigger display, right? ADS-B traffic and weather, terrain, obstacles, moving map/course... ? That seems like a better way to do it, to me... definitely a subjective thing though.

What happens when the instrument driving the autopilot freezes or the signal is lost due to loose connection. IOW, whats the failure mode?

It’s going to go off course, mostly like either turn left or right (no more than standard rate, I think most AP has turn limits) or it will just keep flying straight. I’ve seen both when my AP was misconfigured.

Thats a good feature and a good thing to know.
