2018 Omen?

Beautiful! Never tire of seeing them. Where in FL was this?

Just a little southeast of Haines City. (For point of reference - I'm 13 miles northeast of Bartow, where the lawyer crashed in the fog last week.)

Probably not a harbinger of good things for the local field mice ...

They're beautiful birds, though, aren't they? When I had my Sport Cub I'd see them circling by over Vancouver Lake at 1,000 AGL. Coulda sworn I saw an upraised middle feather once or twice ...

I visited Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in NY a few years ago. Went up in a 1927 Standard open cockpit biplane. The pilot flew towards the Hudson Rover and there were 5-6 Eagles circling, and the pilot joined the circle. I was amazed and thrilled, such beauty.

Some of you may know, others may not so I share because I'm that kind of guy.

You may be wondering why they're called "bald" when they obviously have white feathers on their heads. The name actually comes from an old English word — piebald — which meant “white-headed" rather than hairless.

You're welcome and may come in handy if you ever find yourself in a trivia contest.

Yep! Learned that from National Velvet and "The Pie" many years ago. (In the book, the horse was a piebald, but the movie horse wasn't so they concocted a script device whereby "Pie" was supposed to be short for "Pirate.")

Caught this guy on the security cam...
Came in low and fast from the neighbors behind (just a blur), made a hard turn around the playhouse and grabbed a small bird out of the bushes. This is it on the way out to sit on a utility pole and eat.

The barn cat does a pretty good job of mice and rat control, but the squirrel and bunny populations may take a hit. Saw this guy flying across the road a few weeks ago with what looked like a juvenile rabbit in his beak. I'm guessing there's a nest somewhere nearby.

Geoff, what's with all that white beach sand piled everywhere, even on the roof?

We get them by the house now and then. Here's a picture of one on the beach below the house a while back. The picture was taken off our deck.

And as he was flying away.

I was in formation with a hawk at Hemet-Ryan (SoCal) long ago; he was on the inside of my left turn, a bit lower, and we were looking at each other for quite a few seconds - I was probably faster, but he was on the inside of the turn - we matched speeds; he was/was looking over at me, his head turned to the right.

Probably looking you over as a potential meal, and how would be the best way to take you down....:lol:
