Drove out to the airport today...

yeah, I haven't been over to hampton this week, but with temps not getting over 10*F, there is just no chance for the ramps and runways to melt off...

Only about 3 years (pretending we are in 2018 already). I remember needing a week to get to Boston and a ton of flight re-bookings back in 2015, and that was just the start of their heavy storms. I did my work and got out just before it really got "bad"

The image below was after only 2 storms- I had to go back there early summer and they still had snow they pushed under bridges that hadn't melted.

I live in Massachusetts and shoveled that snow. That was later in the season, and was not as cold. This cold snap has been brutal for this area, not nearly as much snow but with the cold it doesn't melt, it just compacts and turns to ice on less used travel areas, such as taxiways. I'm thinking when the temps moderate a little that type of snow will come. Time to fire up the snowmobiles.

Wow..!!! At that age how could you handle all that power..??

Didn't the duck have a top speed of something like 35MPH on land and like 0.3 knots in the water..??

It could only dream about going that fast on land. Maybe 30, tops. And it took a week to get it up to that speed. It did about 5 knots, tops in the water.

The ponds around here are sooooo cool! (literally and figuratively)

We've had zero snow and very little wind so the ponds have frozen over like glass. Best ice skating ponds we've had in at least 20 years. I've already destroyed four or five of them!!

I love winter. I'll take this over 95dF any day.

These shots are from a hike we took on Saturday.

If Vermont had a state car, Subaru would be it! My next car will probably be one, if the job situation keeps me here. I was considering one back in 2012, but opted for the Sonic because gas prices were a lot higher then. (Also, I had no idea I'd be moving here.)

It's not just a few days it has not been maintained. Judging from the look of the community hangar lot, they haven't plowed that thing at all this year.

Eh, I prefer my Jeep Wrangler. Around here the Subaru is the official car of liberals. Just try to find one without the back end buried in bumper stickers. They are good, I had one back in the 1970s that ran fairly well, other than blowing the head gaskets every 50,000 miles and needing a complete engine overhaul to replace them.

Amphibious wheeled vehicle from WWII.
Now they use them in Boston to do harbor tours.

They're used elsewhere, too. The only place I've ridden in one was Australia in 2007.

as a low time pilot in a 2100 ft runway, this effectively grounds me...

Reminds me of a winter flight in Maine. Augusta was ok, but landed at Greenville and the runway was so so, but the ramp was Sheet ice. I kept taxiing back to the runway, steerable nose wheel was worthless, rudder sails worked fine.

Eh, I prefer my Jeep Wrangler.

So, you're one of those guys who likes working on his vehicles more than driving them, eh???

For about 25 years I got employee discount on Chrysler products. I bought a lot of various Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles over that time....probably 15 to 20. I'd typically put them up for sale after a year or so and then buy something else. I'd usually break even on the vehicle, so I was driving for free, but I never had so many problems with vehicles in my life. The absolute worse was the last one I owned, a 2008 3/4 ton Dodge turbo diesel. I bought that one for my business, put over 70k miles on it in three years and that freakin thing was in the shop more than it was on the road. Amongst numerous other issues, I had to replace the turbo three times on it. All under warranty, thank god. I made damn sure I got rid of it before the warranty expired.

I liked my Jeeps but they were just as big of pieces of chit as every other Chrysler product at the time.

Conversely, owned a 2002 Subaru Forester and 2004 Outback and put over 150,000 miles on both in 10 years or so and neither saw the shop except for tires and oil changes.

I will NEVER own another Chrysler product but I'd gladly buy another Subaru. There's a reason American made cars (especially Chrysler products) typically don't make it into the top 20 in CR's quality ratings (types the man who presently owns three Chevys).

Actually, that 1999 Wrangler hasn't been too bad. I did have the fuel pump quit on the highway once. AAA paid for itself for several years with that tow bill. I've made a few repairs over the years, but good grief, the thing is 19 years old and has just over 191,000 miles on it. That 4 liter I-6 engine is bulletproof. I've never had any trouble with it.
