Hi folks ,
I’m looking for options for mounting my 9.7 pro in the 182.
I’m a new member and I appreciate any useful input.

Thanks.

I use a yoke mount for my iPad mini. For a 9.7, I might prefer to use a knee board. Even the mini obscures some instruments.

I tried a clamp on the panel with a longer arm (to get it away from the panel so I could see behind it) as well as a couple different yoke mount/arm combos. I have an IPad Air 2 so it’s pretty bulky. I settled on a yoke mount on the RH yoke with the mount canted towards me (the right side of the iPad ended up slightly on the cabin side of the right yoke handle and the left side ended up on the panel side of the left yoke handle, so it was at about a 10 degree angle towards me). This provided me a good view of the iPad with minimal instrument obstruction and also kept my yoke clear of mounts etc. it wasn’t perfect but it was the best compromise for my panel.

On any mount, but especially a yoke, make sure you cycle the controls in every conceivable extreme to make sure the mount and/or iPad doesn’t catch or limit travel.

I also typically use the yoke mount on the right side tilted toward me on the left.
I just got a suction cup and am going to use it on the far left side of the windshield so it wont move with the yoke anymore.

Our NDB was shot and Loran obsolete, we used the panel space to mount a RAM mount. In the picture, the mount opens up to the right. We use Garmin Pilot and this mount fits iPad Mini's and 8" Android tablets. We looked into the 10" tablets...just too big. We tried a RAM suction cup on co-pilot side windshield but in any chop its bounces around too much. On the leg is okay but wasn't a favorite either. Never tried the yoke. We'll stick with this until the next major panel upgrade. Behind the RAM mount is small block of Delrin with threads for the RAM mount on the front side and then screwed to a sheet of aluminum in the panel so pretty easy to remove. With the newest Android Tablet we've had GPS signal at all times. Disregard if you have $20K of stuff in your panel :)

I use a cheap suction cup mount I picked up at Frys Electronics mounted to the pilot side windshield. (Where the windshield curves to the side..) I’ve flown about 65 or so hours so far in this configuration with no issues. The only drawback is that I have to lean forward just a bit to see the suction gauge or analog clock, but it’s not a big deal. It was substantially cheaper than a Ram mount and easy to take in and out of various planes, since I’m still a renter.

I have a smaller mini, but I don't mount it, I also use the soft case cover as a notepad

Matt, I currently have a yoke mount but have thought about your approach. Would it be possible to post a pic of your iPad mounted in your plane? It would be helpful.

Thanks!

I had a Cessna 177 and used the Cessna seat rail mount. Loved it.

I can’t find any pictures that show it at the moment. I am out of town but will try to get a pic next time I go flying.

I mount an iPad mini on the yoke of my Mooney. When they stop making the mini I’ll have to switch platforms. I don’t really see anywhere else in the airplane to put it.

Todd: I used the double suction cup mount to mount it to the glass to the left side of the panel.

I could let you borrow it to see if you like it.... heck, I'd even bring it to you if you stayed home long enough for us to fly over and eat with you!

I should be home for a while now, lemme know when you wanna buzz over for a bite.

Kneeboard all the way. Don't like the other options and can't stand yoke mounts.

Also, I rarely have the ipad on anyway. It's mostly a planning device and reference. Powered on maybe 10% of the flight.
