there's EZ Creeper!!

At $1000 shipped, I'll wait until the Chinese reverse engineer it and sell it at Hazard Fright. It does however claim to "eliminate pain and injury." I walked into the flap on the 182 the other day and still have the bump on my nugget. If only I'd had the EZ Creeper. :incazzato:

By the way, I have one of those caps she's wearing. Got it at Brenham TX a few years ago.

I'm going to pick up a bunch of pool noodles and split them so that they can be installed on the trailing edge. I saw that done in a local avionics shop - one of those why didn't I think of that tricks.

That was my Jeep, in front of the hangar. But yeah, airplane all loaded up for a flight to Vegas for a wedding, and tore myself open.

I wanted to slap a mechanic’s bandage on it (duct tape and blue shop towel) and get going, Karen told me I needed stitches. So off to the urgent care we went...

Flight departed a couple hours late. Wedding was fun.

Been doing that for years. Got tired of "Cessna diamond-head." Another trick is to tie lengths of colorful flagging tape to stuff that presents cranial hazards. Pitot heads, droop wingtips, anything that you might bang into when you're walking with you're head down. The flag gets your attention.

I saw Kent cold-cock himself on a 182 strut at (undisclosed because what happens there stays there). Note that he has a low wing now. :rofl:

Guy in the row in front of me at OSH this past summer had the trailing edges of his 182 flaps protected by pool noodles. But I have every expectation he spilled some blood before the creative flash hit him. :p

I've tried that too. Surveyors tape. It gets blown up on top of whatever it's tied to and I still hit it.
Barricades! That's the answer. Black and yellow stripes, spaced out around the whole airplane. Like its a precious Warbird, not to be fingerprinted up. ;)

We use Styrofoam pads on lower belly antenna on airliners, but there have been so many head injuries we are required to wear bump caps whenever inside the aircraft silhouette.

I spilt my head wide open on a 727 C1 door handle that was left sticking out with the door closed. I was ducking under the plane from the left side of the fuselage and stood up too soon. If I recall correctly, it took 12 stitches.

This looks suitable for elevating the victim to stitch up the aftermath of an encounter with a Boeing cargo door latch. ;)

You could also buy a staple gun from HF while you're there and then you'd be all set for the job.
 
I used to work on F-4s. I have a few Phantom bites. That thing was a nightmare to work underneath. Everything was too low to sit down in a chair or stool and too high to lay on the ground. I have more squat time than most MLB catchers.

Yes, it was pretty awkward, I R&R'ed a few F-4 hyd pressure xmiters.

Use pipe insulation, then it's already split for you.

That's what I get for being tall. I have to bend over. Never got myself a diamond scar from a Cessna, because if I did it would be on my neck and would probably kill me!
 
My Pitot tube is exactly at eye level. It doesn't get better than that.

It does. The VOR antennae on a taildragger are a real hazard. We had a Citabria that had them (but no Nav radio) and it was only a matter of time before someone impaled an eyeball. I drilled a couple of small rubber balls and glued them onto the antennae. When I re-covered the airplane I removed the antennae.
 
Every time I think I've learned my lesson, I bash my skull progressively worse and it takes me by surprise even more than the last time. I'm gonna knock myself out one of these days. Not sure if my ball cap is a cause...

Have high-wing preflight concussions ever been looked into as an accident cause?
 
Long years ago we changed styles of L-Band telemetry antennas we were using on our test birds. The goons at Edwards were always breaking the old styles off. The new ones looked like slightly overgrown single edge razor blades. Despite weeks of warnings to them that these were on the birds we were sending back out there, first day, one of the guys buried one in the back of his shoulder. 30+ stitches to close him up and couple of days off work made them all be a little more careful.
 
Geesuz, this aviation thing is a LOT more dangerous than I thought. :eek:

We haven't even STARTED to talk about working up on a 20' ladder to change out the weather radar T/R unit inside the nose cone and the boss didn't tell you it weighed nearly 60 pounds until you unsnapped it and it started to slip out of your grip ...

Blame the boss, when the MM provided ample cautions.
 
Have a customer whose dad had a VOR antennae slip into his eye socket, behind the eyeball, and cut his optic nerve. Says his eye looked normal, but had no sight. When cleaning under a plane with antennae I try and be very vigalent and keep one hand lightly on the end. Should be more carefull and install a piece of styrofoam while spending any amount of time working near.
