Get a new headset?

I love the david clark one x headset. Anr is great, and not too much of it.

You really need to try the ones you’re considering. My wife tried a bunch and settled for the David Clark One-X because with her size it fit her better for acro. I upgraded my 10+ years old Lightspeed 250XL to the latest Zulu 3. Fits the best for me, and love that Lightspeed gave me $150 credit towards the upgrade. Loyalty goes both ways.

Oh, and the Bose didn’t work for either of us. It’s wasnt a $$$ issue. I thought it’s earcups were too shallow and it pressed on my ears. So no Bose envy.

detecting a lot of Bose envy.

I don't have Bose envy. But I have a pair for passengers!

I prefer in-ear. (I have CAs and Halos)

So when someone says I just have my d*** in my ear, I can say, "no, I have my earbuds in my ear."

LOL.

I have a few headsets that I’ve acquired, including a pair of PCA noise cancelling headsets, a couple of Bose X, and the QT Halos. For me personally, I prefer the Halos. I just don’t like the clamping on my head (especially the PCA headsets). I’ve used the Bose A20s and they’re pretty comfortable, but I always end up with sweaty ear cuffs which I don’t like.

In the end, it’s whatever works best for you. For me, I like the QT Halos that all the others just stay in the box. But if I have a passenger, I’ll pull out the Bose X headsets for their use.

Purchased 2 of these for rear seat passengers.... The folks who were the first ones to use them were happy.

LIghtspeeds are for the poor who wish they could afford Bose.

It's one of those; save $150 by buying a 70% solution

No

Not envy, just don't buy their hype. Don't get me going about those crappy 901 speakers they sold in the 70s that had 50 transistor radio speakers in them.

I'm 100% with you on this point. Their hifi gear is crap. It's good for home theater, but lousy for straight audio listening.

Bose actually less expensive. Bose has always been a heavily advertised, overly hyped company. Serious audiophiles would never consider their products.

Anyway headsets are probably the most subjective piece of equipment you'll ever buy. I liked my DC with the ANR mod but they were just too uncomfortable for long flights. I'm happy with the lightspeed pfx I just bought. Plus I know too many people that have Bose and the headcup clamp has broken. That and I hate them for those crappy 901s.

There are only 2 noteworthy Bose products; the A20 Aviation headset and the MusicWave clock radio.

Their audio products are way over hyped and fully agree with the comment they use low quality components maximized to their full potential. The 901 speakers, and their surround sound gear is grossly overpriced and under performed per expectations.

I just bought a set of Lightspeed Zulu 3s. Comparing them to Bose, the Lightspeed was $245 cheaper. There was also a noise cancling set of earbuds included at the time I bought mine Zulu 3s. They are about $150. I think that offer expired.

I am a little underwhelmed by the earbuds - I would not pay $150 for them, but the headset is amazing. I mentioned in the other thread that I was not able to try a Bose before buying the Zulu 3s. Maybe the Bose are that much better but I was blown away by how much better the Zulu 3s are than the $350 ANR set that I was using. My biggest take away from the pireps is that the Bose are a little more durable and may be better suited for daily use.
My biggest regret is I did not buy a good headset ~20 years ago. I don’t splurge often - But these were worth it to me. I would do it again with no regrets.

If someone were to offer me Bose A20 or Lightspeed Zulu's (2 or 3) for free...I would take the Lightspeeds.
Unless I was re-selling them.
I haven't used either of those headsets very much, just borrowed them (twice) but so far the clarity from the mic and overall sound is better on the Lightspeeds for me.
YMMV

I own a pair of each - the DC One X and a Bose A20...normally, I'm wearing the Bose, and my wife likes the DC because it's a little smaller and lighter on her head. In my opinion, they're both great, but until recently, I never realized how different the sound quality is. Not that one is good and the other bad - just different. Maybe it's my age, but I seemed to have a string of flights where I was struggling to make out the controllers in busy airspace when I was wearing my Bose A20's. I switched to the DC's and the difference was dramatic...no more issues hearing controllers. The odd thing is that the Bose clearly has better noise reduction and is probably quieter overall, but the DC's sound a little more treble. With certain controllers, this comes through as a clearer sound, at least to my ears.

You mean you don't have "Bose envy"?!

Lol....
Actually I have Halos.
Both kinds. Can eat some while wearing the others.

Maybe a little Zulu envy on cold days.

I have owned every headset mentioned here. Bose X, A20, Clarity, Halo, Zulu 2 (Not PFX) etc. The Halos are the winner in the "in the ear category" but they are still not as practical as a clamp headset. For instance, when it is cold in the cockpit the ear plugs are not flexible and do not seal well. They are; however, the most comfortable.

In the ANR category there is one not mentioned here - the AKG AV100. These are my favorite headset of all time and now are discontinued production. They have great ANR, best adjust features, quick bluetooth pairing with verbal confirmation, LEMO and standard plugs both included, and very handy built in LED lights. It's unfortunate they did not sell enough to stay in the game because I do believe they are superior.

Crazy thought, maybe Lightspeeds are for people who flew with both and.......wait for it........found Lightspeeds more comfortable, better noise reduction, liked them better for whatever reason. And then maybe, just maybe, they chose to spend their money on one based on that experience rather then on saving a few hundred bucks *gasp*.

Lightspeeds for the poor... Yikes dude.

This is the only answer! Except.. when you do it, get the Clarity without BT and buy the BlueLink separately. The cost is the same. There is a little extra cable involved, but you're free to use the BT with any headset instead. Best of both worlds.

Don't do this. LOL!
The Clarity Aloft link is nice.
If you buy the Clarity Aloft, then buy the bluelink it isn't so good anymore. Trust me....

I thought you buy junk cars, not junk headsets. LOL!
A used David Clark would be WAAAAYYYY better.

Well I think this thread proves that everyone has their own idea of the best headset, and that is usually the one they own!

Way back when I started and took my discovery flight, I borrowed a pair of passive DCs from the FBO. The gel earcup seals were so ratty they didn’t keep the noise out! I was struggling to understand the tower. Since I knew I wanted to continue to PP-ASEL, I marched into the FBO office and ordered a pair of DC ANRs, top of the line at the time ... and the headset for which the term “head clamp” was invented. That never bothered me! Hard head I guess... I have about 600 hours on them, and another 200 (estimated) on a lawn tractor. NBD, I like them. To each his own.
