I am trying to find the FAA list of meds that are/are not allowed. I'm coming off the flu and need to know if the stuff I'm taking has any specific issues. The only list I've been able to find is one at AOPA but would prefer to find a list from the FAA.

Side note: I'm a sport student so I'm not sure if that changes anything.

There is none. FAA will not publish it for fear that an attorney will hold them responsible for "well it wasn't on the list".

'Course, you could as someone who knows.

So if there is no list, what is AOPA publishing and how accurate is it likely to be?

Me thinks you missed a subtle invitation to "ask someone who knows" about your medication via a private message.

Ummm...that'd be a big 10-4. I did mention I'm coming off the flu (and also have a house full of family including a VERY active 3 YO)...The fact I can still type is a positive thing. Thanks for the hint.

I will initiate a chat tomorrow.
 
I was wondering the legality of the AOPA list. Am I bound by 60 hours ground time by taking NyQuil???

Can’t speak to “legally bound”, but when I consume NyQuil, it’s at least 48-60 hours for the sedative effects to go away. That stuff really does a number in me, and no way am I operating a vehicle of any sort.

There is legal (5x the half life) and there is what works for each individual. I wouldn't intentionally violate the FAA's requirements, but on the other hand, Nyquil, Benadryl, etc. have little sedative impact on me. I assume this demonstrates, in a roundabout way, that the FAA guidance is designed to codify the rules for the most at risk 1% (or whatever) of the pilot population, but is overkill for the balance of the population.

OTOH, if you waive a cat in my face, it is a near death experience. Perhaps the FAA should ban cats? ;-)
 
The AOPA list is not "legal" but is painstakingly compiled based on our experiences with FAA. But even that might not be quit as current as one would like.

OK, that helps. Thank you for the update. I just started a conversation with Dr. Bruce so we'll see where this leads. My thanks to the group for the assist.

OK, so need a bit of help on 2 issues.
1. Is a 'Conversation' the same as a PM in the context of this forum? I can't find anything called a PM.
2. Is the correct contact Dr. Bruce or someone else?

That was a good question. I too had to figure out that a "conversation" really is a private PM so long as you keep the participant to one person.
