I am replacing my Artex 406mhz ELT battery, but before I remove the instrument panel (50 or so screws) I wanted to know what the battery is in the remote control 'head' ..the Artex CD shows a copper-top battery from Duracell but company instruction CD only gives a 6-diget company number, not the Durascell number. I wanted to have one on hand before taking the plane apart to make certain I can get one locally. I e-mailed Artex for info but got no answer. thanks for any help. Photo of the Duracell battery doesn't show their number.

Doesn't your panel switch drop out of the front of the panel with two screws?

No, the cover over the instrument bay has to be removed...must be 50 screws to remove it, then four nuts/bolts for the indicator to drop out from behind the panel. I wanted to have a replacement battery so the plane would not be out of service while waiting for one to come in from out of town.
thanks, FlyingRon....will check to see if I can get here...small town, not much choice..Walmart is about it.

Not sure but usually batteries that are dated are required at least in ELTs that take D cells.

We're not talking about the one in the ELT itself. Those must have expiration dates. He's talking about the one in the control panel. There's no strict expiration date but the manufacturer recommends a five year replacement interval.
