Looking for an A&P recommendation for a pre-buy inspection of a Piper Lance near Tucson AZ. Experience with Pipers and the PA-32 airframe is preferred.

Thanks!

I did but he said, "that's a lot of airplane" so now I don't. Where's "near Tucson?"

It's in Tucson. But we might be able to get it moved nearby for the inspection.

I know a good one but he’s based at FFZ (Mesa)

Can you PM me his contact info? I'm having a hard time finding somebody in Tucson. Mesa might work.

Well that sounds like a hearty endorsement :(

Without giving away a name, are his initials DR? If so, this is the guy who pencil whipped the annuals on my plane before I bought it.

Thankfully not. But I did check with him, unfortunately he tends to stay away from the larger retract airplanes like the Lance, Comanche, twin Comanche's and Bonanza's , etc.

He did our PA-28-235F annual a few weekends ago.

Because you never know who one may offend. If anyone is thinking of needing a mechanic in Mesa, specifically Falcon Field, PM me for the name.

If it is him, and he did pencil whip annuals, why does he deserve anonymity?

So no one's feelings get hurt. And if it DID happen, the A&P with initials "DR" at LEAST deserves some sort of participation trophy. It's a snow-flake world my friend, and we're in a blizzard.

I'm not preventing hurt feelings. He may be someone's friend or God forbid, even their mechanic here and I'm not going to needlessly bad mouth someone on this forum. I will however, warn others to prevent what I went through.

will somebody please give me a definition of "pencil whipped annual" (aka Parker P51 annual)? Were there things that were absolutely unairworthy that were missed? Corrosion? OR was it a tire that wasn't quite worn through to the cord that would need attention soon?

Remember the second word in "annual". That is "annual inspection". It isn't a free-for-all of every little thing that has a chip on the paint from when it came out of the factory. THe definition is that every system on the airplane is inspected to be AIRWORTHY, not redone to new limits.

In the Navy, we call it gun-decking. Saying you performed the inspection in accordance with applicable guidelines when you did not.

I'm talking about signing off fuel lines that are so brittle they break in two when removed. Magnetos that haven't been inspected or overhauled in years. Steering horn that has had bushings installed into enlarged holes because it is worn out. Fuel shut off valve that doesn't shut off the fuel. Numerous other worn out things that should've been replaced.

Having said that, Jim does bring up an interesting point. There seems to be a personal line that moves according to the IA. Will it still fly? Yes. How long will it fly? Hard to tell, but chances are good that it would fly a lot longer if _____ was repaired or replaced.

I've seen a annual signed off and the inspector never left his car. There's a retired airline pilot where I'm based that I witnessed doing two annuals in a half a day. That's a pencil whip. The cheap pilots think they're getting a bargin at $300 but what they're realling getting is nothing.

There are aircraft on my customer list that I can preform the annual in 2 hours. These are owner assisted laid out ready to be inspected, and being closed up after I look. ADs are complete from the year prior and no new ADs
Piece o cake, put the coffee cup down and go to work.

But I once took 11 years to complete an annual and resulting discrepancies.

You would have to have guidelines to gun deck.

we in part 91 can make up our own

My comment wasn’t referring to pre-buys. I was referring to FAR required maintenance and inspections.

You don’t get to decide whether or not you perform required maintenance even in part 91

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread but I am looking for someone to do a prebuy on a Cherokee in Eloy, AZ. It’s about an hour from Phoenix or Tucson, in the middle, so happy to pay driving expenses.

Thanks in advance for any referrals.
