Matt Lauer Busted

To your first paragraph: "We live in a free country so freedom includes what a woman decides to wear." Yes and you do realize the concept of "freedom" is a made up human idea, right? In reality we are biological organisms who signal non-verbally to each other. Our freedom to wear what we want doesn't negate the consequences of our clothing choices.

To the fishing bait comparison, if you use the best bait so you can catch the best fish, and then must throw back all the bad ones, don't blame the fish for doing what comes naturally and going for the bait. I'm not saying rape is okay just because you're dressing like a slut. But whistles, cat calls and requests for dates should not be a reason to ruin a man's career if you dress like a slut and act like a flirt, and that is where we are heading with today's insane dichotomy between flagrant female sexual display and Victorian expectation of male restraint. That's what makes me sick.

No one ever ruined a man's career due to a whistle, a cat call, or a request for a date. A repeated pattern of such, perhaps. Most of the predators making the news did far, far more than that. Again, a woman's dress is never an invitation to molestation.

As to me needing to get out more because I don't see how women are mistreated in the work place, do you realize I am a woman? I went into the field of mechanical engineering. I worked full time in this field for many years and I "got out" a whole lot, in corporate headquarters and in the field. (That would be the real world to you academic types.) Here is what I found: women who were stupid, incompetent, unmotivated and unproductive were indeed treated worse, given fewer resources, not promoted and so on, just like males who were like that. The women who were competent, productive, etc., were treated as well or better than their male counterparts.

There was no having to be twice as good as a man to get equal treatment. That's a made up lie. If that were true then simple market forces would have women being sought after and paid more. This simply doesn't happen. Why? Because women still are less productive on average than men. This entirely explains the wage and promotion gap. But a woman who is equally productive as a man gets equal treatment. That was my personal experience out in the real world.

Maybe in universities they discriminate against women, because universities have become liberal strongholds and liberals do tend to be hypocrites and practice the very crimes of which they accuse others.

First, I am heartened to hear that you have been treated well by your profession. I would have said the same about the treatment of women in my profession, at one point everyone in the "chain of command' above me up to an including the University president was female. However, my views are always swayed by data, and the data clearly shows that women have been treated unfairly in my corner of academia in some institutions. I doubt anyone did this on purpose, some of the institutions where this is occurring were run by women. I've heard the term "unintentional bias" bandied about.

I have never seen a stupid, lazy female correctly blame her own laziness and stupidity for her lack of promotions in her career. They always blame sexism. The feminists and the liberals have transformed this narrative into one of their political tools. And that is what you are falling for.

If you've never seen a competent woman held back by sexism you need to get out more.

I wasn't even sure I was going to spend time responding to that. I'm 61 years old and have had a lifetime "getting out" in men's worlds. I've seen it from every angle. I know all the games. At least out in the real world. I don't know what kind of playpen he is in, like I said, maybe in his liberal world they do actually practice flagrant sexism. Perhaps where your funding is based on politics and grants, not market forces, they can indulge their prejudices.

Wisdom is the ability to see beyond the lens of your own experience. Just because you've not personally witnessed something doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

There are always exceptions! (Where have I read that before? )

Many many competent men have been held back too. Maybe because they are fat, or ugly, or shy, or a host of other reasons. Just like women.

But women are also held back because of choices they make, like having babies (and often) not returning to work, or quitting and moving because their husband/boyfriend did, or just plain quitting earlier because they had a man to support them. Hiring a woman can be riskier than hiring a man.

But a good, competent, hard working woman can get ahead if they apply themselves and prove themselves.

Of course though, there are always exceptions.

I think we would have a woman President today if a good, honest, competent, hard working woman ran. But Hillary ran instead.

#metoo is People's person of the year. I think that's uber cool.

Well at least it wasn't Colon... Sorry Colin Kaepernick.

Where were all those courageous me too types when harassment wasn't the cause celeb?

Somewhere someone is biting their nails and cursing themselves for missing the jump.

But fear not, 6 months from now we'll have a whole new cause celeb.

Some chick was asked a question on TV to the extent of "What's the most annoying thing about Matt Lauer" and her answer was "He's constantly pinching my ass." Everyone in the studio laughed. This was a few years ago. I can't find the clip for the life of me.

I have a theory as to where some of the confusion on these issues comes from. I hear about things like rape culture and these assaults and wonder how it could be possible. Rape is just about the most unacceptable thing one can do- it's right up there with murder in our culture. Someone does it and you literally see people calling for blood/hanging them/torturing them to death/etc. We don't accept it. Sexually harassing a woman is also looked upon as a terrible thing that only a terrible person would do. So how in the world can we have a rape culture? How in the world can all this sexual harassment be happening for so long without the guy getting fired/jailed/becoming a pariah?

But then maybe that's the issue... if one of my friends got accused I wouldn't believe it. I don't believe my friends are horrible people therefore how could they be capable of doing a horrible thing? I'd assume there was a misunderstanding, or she was exaggerating or something. Lord knows I've said things that I thought were totally innocent and got my wife hopping mad before. Hasn't every man had an incident where you said/did something you thought nothing of and had a woman flip out because she took it in a way you'd never have even thought of? Don't many of us worry about accidentally brushing into a woman and having her think we're doing something pervy when it's really an accident?

So... you can see why many of us might tend to doubt an accuser. I think other women even do this... maybe ironically because it is looked on with such disdain we all have this mental block where we can't believe people we know and trust are capable of it. Also it doesn't help in my case that the one and only case of harassment I ever had any connection with was in high school when a girl accused one of my friends. She lied, I know she lied because I was there and if anything she was the one harassing him. She then leveraged this to get herself some special privileges, fortunately my friend had witnesses including me to back up his version of events but the mere accusation was enough to scare the school into doing what she wanted. So, having seen that I know full well sometimes it really is a lie.

So instead people voted for Donald Trump??!!! Good? No! Honest? No! Competent? No! Hard working? No! ... but I guess at least he's not a woman!

I think we voted for the lessor of the two evils, he may even do more good than expected, swing the SCOTUS way right may be what we need.

another hater for no reason. he's already done more for this country than your hero did in 8
Looks like we're not going to be able to talk about the reasons here.

Hear, hear! We’d like our sexism to stay apolitical.

I think this is a contender for notable quotable of the year!

Deonb may have a companion trophy to go with his Juxtaposition post!

Not asking to debate anything but only asking you to list all of his great accomplishments.
Concealed weapons across state lines is a good starter.
Stock market above 24k, show I'm not the only one who has faith in his abilities.
Investigations into the FBI corruptions well needed, and way over due.
Tax bill is an other.

see how political that this can in get in no time at all?

OBTW the head lines this morning.

So what did he specifically do to increase the value of the stock market? Which of his policies that have been put into place had that result?

His, as any President's leadership, instills confidence in investors, or not.
For example, the RV industry has had a record year. because buyers are confident they can spend their money now, all due to his policies/leadership.

This is a case of haters simply hating because he isn't a Democrat. so no matter what is said it won't change any minds.

Same question was asked when people touted Cigar Molester In Chief's excellent stock market gains as proof of his awesomeness. I'll never call the guy an idiot because he was a Rhodes Scholar. I just disagree with most all of his views.

On the current guy, an argument could be made that easing regulation, approving the Keystone Pipeline, and the upcoming tax changes (can't say it's reform, cuts or anything else yet) have lead to the market rise.

When I listen to the most left-leaning of the cable networks, I hear lots and lots of reasons being given for their views on our current president. Obviously not everyone agrees with their reasons, but saying that they have no reasons is flat out false.

"Constantly"? What happened after the first time? Did she giggle about it or give him a 'stop doing that' dirty look? Seems like a problem with the office culture there rather than just one person.
