The Andersen Ultimate Gooseneck Adapter hitch!

39 lbs of welded aluminum, attached to a turnover gooseneck ball in the bed, means I can have a completely flat, clean, unobstructed bed in about 2 minutes flat, and can lift it all out with one hand.

Reminds me of NASCAR

They do run 2 road courses though, and those boys are pretty good at it, like Jeff Gordon, and of course the hired road racers for the road races that race these two races. Whew a lot of races.

YEP ! that's who buys super C s then parks them in the infield, not in the boonies.

In case anyone is just joining us, I have attempted to summarize the Crackbird’s take on full time RVing. As such:
We could almost do a “my favorite part of this thread” series.
For me: Azb said he’s going full time, AND HES BRINGING A WELDER!!!
I laughed, then laughed some more after reading this

490 replies.... dis anyone realize az is probably using this gig for a 1500 nm xc...

I have a portable (MIG) wire feed welder.

I've got a little Lincoln Mig with Argon cylinder and the aluminum spool/gun that's a pretty capable little welder. I figured that should cover my bases when I go 4-wheeling out on BLM land and bust a fuel or water tank bracket, or a support beam in the aluminum trailer.

Worst case scenario, I pull in to a luxury RV park and hang my shingle out advertising my services... "knives sharpened, wood whittled, pigs butchered, and a gamut of elixirs for whatever ails ya"

Oh AZB…[sigh]…

And @CC268 , I blame you, and you alone, for this (and I think you know why) …

So, you are “planning” on RV-ing full time. I say “planning” in quotes because you seem to do a lot of “planning” on many things, per se, which I personally am not convinced will ever happen, but that's just my opinion and I digress. Any who, so as a part of this plan to RV full time, you have decided you are bringing a welder as part of your list of necessary equipment for the RV-full-time life. To me, this is akin to saying something like, “I infrequently wear suits and formal wear. Full time RV-ing, I will still infrequently wear suits and formal wear. Therefore, while full time RV-ing, I must bring along a portable dry-cleaning machine, tetrachloroethylene, and a press.”

I have a mid-sized arc welder, and an intermediate level skill at welding. But even I, at home, rarely do my own welding. The last time I needed some welding done, I did consider doing it myself, but there are so many welders around, doing it for so cheap, I figured it wasn’t worth my time/effort….and again this was while I was at home, with all the conveniences of home. You are planning on dragging a welder around, with a generator large enough to run it, all so you can infrequently fix something while on the road??? The gasoline used to haul the extra weight alone would never offset the cost savings of paying someone for an infrequent weld job. Then there’s the space it would take up, securing it in a trailer, also packing a large generator, rod, scrap metal, clamps, etc. Even the tiny welder that Zeldman has pictured would require constant almost 3000 watts or so from a generator, and because of its size it would be very limited in what it can do.

I’ve never full-timed in my RV. The longest I’ve ever done in one of my RVs was 3 weeks. Even at just 3 weeks, I had to cut back on what I wanted to bring, vs. what I did bring (and I was also pulling an enclosed trailer). I should note that those 3 weeks were in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I don’t know if you have ever been to Michigan, but unlike the lower peninsula, the upper if very sparsely populated, with moose, bear, wolves, and an average population density of less than one person per square mile. But even here, I have never gone more than a 30 minutes’ drive without seeing a “Welder” sign at the end of someone’s driveway. I travel out west, and seen ‘em frequently there too.

But hey, it’s your dream: pack what you want. While adding it to your shingle, you could add:

AZB’s Internet Ad Sales

AZB’s Mobile RV Welding (pending)

AZB’s Bush Pilot Gold Panning (pending)

AZB’s 1500 nm X/Cs (pending)

AZB’s Antique Aircraft Restorations (pending)

AZB’s Aircraft Parts Manufacturing (pending)

Sooooo, I guess this is my long-winded explanation why I’m finding this so funny. But when ya gotta explain the joke…

You're killing me here @tawood ... my welder/generator combo doesn't take up anymore room than a couple large boxes of clothes would. I think you're forgetting the size of the trailer I'll be pulling. It will hold and carry quite a bit. What do you think the pro racers carry with them? I'll be carrying basically the same stuff (tools, welder, generator, air compressor, etc.) except I won't be hauling race cars. I'll be hauling my toys. Nothing wrong with carrying a mini-shop full of tools with you as long as you have the room and a rig that will easily pull it. Why do you think I want a Class 8 chassis? They're made to haul/pull all that stuff. You forget... once I sell my home, I'll basically be "homeless"... so why not get something that I can still enjoy the amenities of what I have in my home now... and just take it on the road with me? It's not rocket science dude... ;)

You should definitely take the swimming pool along, too. Never know when you’ll want to use that.

What do you think the pro racers carry with them?

Everything including a spare kitchen sink and a back up car.

"knives sharpened, wood whittled, pigs butchered, and a gamut of elixirs for whatever ails ya"

Pretty much seen close to this at every Rv park I have had an extended stay at.

Like the redneck pool and laundry..???

LOL... That I can definitely do without!

I can count on one hand the number of times I've swam in my pool over the last 25 years. But the wife just had to have one. :mad2:

I've seen similar when hanging with our friends. RV parks are like little towns in their own right. You always have somebody that's either a butcher, baker, or a candle stick maker.

This is one article I'll side with you as necessary, My little square wave Hobart TIG weighs 45 pounds plus the argon cylinder. it has its own place in the coach basement with its own plug wired 220 to the Onan 7.5.
But the rest of your requirements = way over the top.

Can any one still reading this ever remember seeing a Super C with a huge Trailer on anything but a freeway or inter state highway?
All I've ever seen them in is a rest area over nighting.

There is a reason for that.

Most of your nicer RV parks these days have pull-thrus designed especially for the big rigs. You should already know that Tom. :yesnod:

All the pro racers have them. Got to be some out there somewhere, right? ;);)

I've yet to find one. most are out for as many sites as they can fit. and you'll be unhooking that trailer to get into most.

I have seen one. Stuck in the middle of a small field I was considering purchasing. The truck and trailer were stuck in mud up to the axles. Otherwise, mostly see them at events, such a county fairs.

I don't care what rig you have. that happens to them all. that is the fault of the driver not the rig.
Little truck campers can go many places I can't, but they are the ones in the camp grounds that ask me if they can plug in to my gen-set.
we often support our kids trailer when we go remote, the generator will support us and them easy.

No disagreement. You asked if anyone had seen one outside of the interstate. Yup, I seen one stuck in a field. Others at county fair type events. I should have used a green font, note I was being a smart a**.

Tim

yep.. on the interstate going from one race to the next.

So let me see if I'm clear here Tom... please tell me what the difference is between these two rigs. One you see quite frequently at nice RV parks, fairs/rodeos, racing events, etc. etc. The other you see "somewhat frequently" at nice RV parks, fairs/rodeos, racing events, etc. etc.

So what am I missing here dude? :dunno:

The comfort and living space of the Class A. which can be had use for much less, and don't do the coach seen above.

We found a lot of pull-throughs around here and in the Midwest. Just sayin’.

State of CO has been revamping campgrounds for a few years to keep up with the demand for larger and larger sizes, as well as 50A hookups.

People want their air conditioning and TV when they camp now, I guess. We often didn’t bother but when we broke down in Nebraska, a 50A hookup was nice. Both A/Cs running full tilt for three days kept up with the humidity and heat.

We could only run one A/C on our genset which would have been fine also.

We never used either A/C in CO ever. But we were glad we had the pre-wired option for the forward one and added it for that unplanned three days in NE in July.

You want to hear some irony @denverpilot ? Given all the differences (which are kinda petty if you ask me) you and I have had in the past, I may even decide to let you teach me "how to fly". Hell, I may even move my servers up to CO and let you babysit them as long as you're comfortable in the LAMP environment. ;)

I miss CO (sans the front range). All my family is up there, and I miss them too. My Aunt and her wife/husband have a little 40 acre mini ranch/farm outside of Strasburg. I could easily park my rig at their house and commute to your FBO for the lessons. I'm sure you know of some good colo/data centers in Denver where I could stash a few servers also.

Get your s**t together dude and become a great instructor. I miss flying across the hills and plains and it's time I get back in to it again. Who knows, we may even fly around CO, WY, NE, looking for planes to buy and ship off to Wichita to have refurbished. :p

Ahhhhh... so you're all about the "comfort and living space"... call me crazy, but this looks pretty comfortable and livable to me... :goofy:

Then you tell me why Class A s out sell them 1000 to 1 .
I've met several full timers in 5vers, and many in A s but never a full timer in a super C. just ain't what they are made for and besides, I have been searched every RV sales site I can find and narry a single super C as you've stated you want in your price range.
Good Luck Dude, You've got a big lesson ahead of you.

Yes there are a lot of pull thru s in campgrounds, but almost every camp we have been in the Super C can't get in or out of them because of the turn radius, they simply can't get around the corners in the camp. they over night where the 18 wheelers do. road side rests.
The Longer A s have the same problem. 45' is about as long as you can go to avoid this. I can back my trailer to about 60 degrees off center as can a 5ver even more, but a super C no more than 45 degrees is about it.
When you try to use a campground like the Pioneer camp in white horse Yk you are going to be backing out of the gate because they pack them in so tight there is less than a foot between spaces, I even had to unhook the jeep to get in the space.
What's he going to move that huge trailer with if he unhooks it?
Lots of camps like that. The one at Tok was the same thing all sites were pull thrus, but the "U" turn at the far end of the camp ground was a sharp one, and we were close getting around it.
and remember we are only 40' and 55 jeep attached.
He is going to be 45' for the truck and another 24' for the trailer = right at the legal limit. so he will be where the trucks spend the night, truck stops, rest areas, and the Walmart parking lot.
This brings along collateral difficulties, water fills will be hard to find, dump stations too, 50 amp services who knows where he'll find one.
Since we bought the Newmar we have been to New England 3 times, Texas twice, Florida once, Alaska twice. coming home we've done the mid Atlantic states DC, and Gettysburg most of the tourist traps along the way, we know what's out there. So that is why we haven't moved up.
Ol AZ is going to grab the biggest road monster as his first camper, and go full time. Rots o Ruck,
