Yup, I've already canceled my first flight of the season due to freezing level. Tis the time of year I start thinking of trading for a little fiki.

Freezing level around here pretty much starts in Oct and goes till apr.... unless there is visible moisture, I don't cancel flights just based on the level anymore. Yah, fiki would be nice

Well Jeff, I think it's safe to say he isn't where we are. :)

I wonder if it is dry cold.
Eventually, it will get dry and then I would get awesome 1400 fpm climb in an archer soon too...once I get the pre flight done in sub zero temp that is

I guaranteed good weather for my local area for the foreseeable future by leaving my aircraft at the avionics shop.

Don't mind the snow... it's the -40 windchill that doesn't provide much warmth....

It's supposed to hit KPTK Tuesday night. Snowy and blowy but the roads are still warm enough it wont stick on them. I get a kick out of watching traffic the first time the roads are snow covered. People seem to forget the roads get slick in winter.

We very seldom get snow but when we do, you can spot the California transplants, they are the folks who park their cars in the ditch. :)

Here in New Mexico, half of those cars usually have Colorado plates.... the other half California plates.... and sometimes they don't even need snow to park in the ditch..!!!:lol:

Maybe not today, but it does get nice and dry up there when it gets cold.

As odd as it sounds, the dry, cold winters up in northern MN are what I miss most. The warmer, wet, and slushy winters where I'm at now actually feel colder to me than the subzero temperatures up north.

Winter arrives in North Georgia on Wednesday. At lunch today, I went through the airport and retorqued the prop on the RV-6, safetied it, and reinstalled the spinner. All in short sleeves. Tomorrow should be the same, but wet. After that?? Winter.

But in about two more weeks, the days start getting longer, which is the light at the end of the tunnel.

I walked the dog in my t-shirt at 0600 this morning. It was almost 70 in SE MO. In a couple of days the high will be in the upper thirties.

It's time though, I like cold weather.

(And...NO..."walking the dog" is not a euphemism in that story!)

Hey you guys, look to the left!
<------------
There is an option to put your location!

So, if you say "dang it's code out", we don't have to assume you are in the high arctic for our minds to understand what is going on!

Location Location Location!
Where is you?

I put my location out there, long time back. For some reason doesn't show. Anyone got a POH for POA?

Up here in GFK it’s pretty nasty too. University canceled afternoon classes which is rare.

Why was the dog in your t-shirt?

Yupp, all schools closed too here, very rare. Think last time they closed was in 2008 or 2009

No one knows what kfar is anyway; its probably rejecting it because of that. :D

Tim,

Back in the day; early 1980's IIRC, we walked our Norwegian Elkhounds in shirtsleeves on Christmas eve.No snow, and it was the warmest Christmas I can recall.

The ice melted in my tropical drink that I enjoyed at the beach a bit slower than usual, so yes, winter is here.

They do that in the summer too. Something about unfamiliar vehicle dynamics when not spending most of their time in the car standing still staring at the bumper in front of them.

People seem to forget the roads get slick in winter.

When I was a kid, during or immediately after the first snow of the year, my dad would take me out to the only big parking lot in town and we'd take turns doing huge powerslide 360s around the lot. I was probably 13 when he first took me along. It was a blast and refreshed our snow driving technique for the season.

I still do this occasionally. PPC = powerslide proficiency check!

I used to do that too, and when I got front wheel drive took it to a parking lot only to discover it reacts much differently than rear wheel drive.
