This came under the “Closed/Unsafe Conditions” category and just want to be sure I understand what it’s saying:

RWY 28 CLSD TO PLA AND LDG 1710251346-PERM

So it’s saying runway closed to low approach and landing, but what exactly is that?

Sounds like the runway is only for takeoffs.

Are you asking what a practice low approach and landing are?

I think so. Can I make a high approach? Can I use that runway if it’s not practice?

Sounds like they don't want anyone practicing there. Really? Is that even "legal"? (If a publicly funded airport)

What airport is this? If within a couple of hours of me I'll go shoot a bunch of approaches...being the anti-authority personality that I am! :)

Actually it says PLA, closed to practice low approach, and LDG, landings. And it's permanent (PERM).

Yep. I think he's reading it a prohibiting a maneuver called "practice low approach and landing," rather than prohibiting (a) practice low approaches and (b) landings on that runway.

It means that you can't do 3D printing on the runway using the common PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastic.

You want to tell us what airport this is? Maybe there's an obstruction on the approach end?

Permanent noise abatement procedure? Pretty common now around congested Puget Sound.

Takeoffs would be noisier.

The FAA has some odd ideas on landing approaches. I flew into 02C and asked why it was that their threshold on Runway 3 was displaced almost half the length of the pavement. They said the FAA didn't like some of the obstructions and mandated they do that.

Looking at this nontowered airport in Google Maps, I'm wondering whether it is due to problems or concerns with traffic converging for the two runways and the patterns running into each other. So they close the shorter runway for landings where they converge. For takeoffs they diverge.

Yep the airport is KAVO. Really quiet place, landed on runway 5 so it was a non issue. Didn’t notice any obstructions on takeoff but the runway was 5k+ feet so plenty of space. You might be right about the patterns midlifeflyer; and yea I did think it was one maneuver instead of two statements d’oh

Seems silly. It’s uncontrolled, and people have to think about things. Gasp. The horrors.
