While planning to purchase an ADS-B transponder in the near future, I'm wondering if the Narco AT150 model transponder is a slide-in replacement for the older AT50 unit? I have a couple of used AT150s and trying to determine if they could be used to replace a defective AT50. Anybody have experience with this scenario?

Yes it is a slide in replacement. Just did the same in my plane recently to fix a “defective” at50 which ended up being a broken wire.

On that note anyone need an at50?

Thanks for the feedback! All things considered is the AT150 superior to the AT50? Newer doesn't always mean better...

Try to find a AT-165, all solid state, new tech. slide in replacement..
If you don't mind knobs, but want something that might cost a little less than the AT-165, the AT-155 is the essentially the same unit (gut-wise), just with the knobs. They offered the AT-155, right before the AT-165. The later Narco avionics were not bad, but the couldn't keep pace. The same thing is happening to King now...

I "upgraded" my old AT50 to an AT165 (solid state) since I went the UAT ADS-B Route already... starts working right away in cold weather unlike the "warm up" time the old AT-50 required.
