Is there a place to drop someone and go such as a city ramp, or must we use an FBO?

Not that I know of. Is this to catch a commercial flight? If not, consider Stinson. They have a public terminal with transient parking I believe.

Can always ask. http://www.sanantonio.gov/SAT/About/Feedback?nomo=1 The one time I used this form I got an answer back within about an hour on a Sunday night from someone pretty high in the bureaucracy.

Stinson (KSSF) is the only one that I know of. Main terminal is public, with a transient parking in front. The FBO has set up shop right next to it, but you don't have to use their services. Forget about KSAT and KSKF on that account.

Ha, I'm gonna drop the pax just inside the movement area and turn tail.
Will they hold pax hostage inside or lock them out on the ramp?
This is ridiculous.

to be fair to ksat, what major class charlie hub airport or bravo allows you to park for free? agree though, GA access sucks all around san antonio MSA, unless youre willing to drive an hour to work. transients dont have it any better imo. you might want to call anyways and check, otherwise consider the cost and hassle of securing ground transportation from stinson versus the 60 bucks or so youll probably end up paying at any of the SAT FBOs.

Dave, I don't believe there is any, but it's been 8 years since I've flown down there.

T94 is the closest GA airport and is barely further by road to SAT main terminal than is the east side of SAT. Don't know details of T94 as I never flew in there.

The FBO on the north side (I forget the name) is cheaper than the others, IIRC.
You can also always tell the pax: get out and pay at the door, see ya. :)

Is your pax catching a commercial flight? If so they may need a ride from the FBO.
If not... not sure what to say other than nothing in life is free.

Official answer from SAT:

Thank you for your inquiry. The airport does not have an area that you can drop off passengers and go on the airfield. You would need to utilize one of the FBOs. We have 3 on the field, please let me know if you need assistance getting in contact with one of them.
