This was your pilot...what do you do next?

Should another one up there right? RIGHT?

I wave at him as he's about to be injested into the # 1 engine...then walk to the cockpit and see if the co pilot needs help in "flying" the auto pilot. :D

This is fake news.
Everybody knows this cannot happen in real life.
Commercial pilots are locked in their cockpit behind strengthened doors specifically so they can't endanger passengers by escaping and pulling this sort of stunt.

There is an escape hatch in the cockpit.

Looks like the plane is in free fall with him so I’d be kissing my sweet ass goodbye.

Oh no you wouldn't! You'd be running for the cockpit, after you stop and lift a few miniatures, and save the day.

I know I would. Don't big planes have AOA? Just shoot for L/D max and enjoy the ride. The auto pilot is flying anyway.... like every other day

The first time I flew I was 5 years old, when they showed you how to brace for impact, my dad looks at me and goes son, that means and put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye... I was 5.

We have three escape hatches... two windows and a kick out panel.
That said, two are plug type so good luck with those, and one goes to the cabin. So......

Who are these guys that laugh at the AP flying??
You ever hand fly an airplane at FL390 for five hours??

No, but if u do not count FL I hand flew at 3900 today . Joking, I have no idea what it takes to fly anything bigger than 182.

It's not the size of the ship so much as the sensitivity at the high altitudes. It gets very squirrelly in the thin air.

Had those too.

"Ladies and gentleman, our right engine has failed. The Left engine will be out out fuel shortly... Don't panic! If you look out the windows on the left side of the aircraft, you will see a man in a blue suit floating down under a white, silk parachute... That is your pilot, this.... is a recording.....Beep!

Snap a pic and post it on PoA, raid the adult beverage cart, grope a (preferably consenting) stewardess, mmmm, and maybe let out a loud ‘yippee kay yay motha $$@“as!’
Pretty much what I was thinking! ;-)

I was involved in the installation of the fortified doors on several aircraft types, after 9/11, nothing about those doors should be made public.
Lol!!! I revealed nothing that can't be revealed on a google search.

The kick out door is NOT accessible to anyone but the pilots.

Do the stews have the capability of unlocking the cockpit door?

In that case, it sounds like there would be no point in "running for the cockpit," as you put it.

Definitely would be hazardous to your health. If the passengers and/or FAs don't beat you to near death, a bullet from the cockpit might.

Didn’t know you could fall sideways at over 300MPH. Interesting.

Oh sure, go get all logical on us. o_O

The other pilot is holding up the same sign to the passengers on the other side of the plane...

Hopefully the other one is still there, but either way I’d offer to help. More than happy to bow out if another airline pilot, or someone with more/better experience, is onboard. More than happy to help with radios or whatever.

It’s a plane. Unless it’s terribly low on fuel and/or off autopilot and not level it shouldn’t be a big deal if I got some details. Can’t say it would be pretty, but if I had someone on the radio with speeds and some instruction it should be survivable. Notice that me flying it is my last option. But I’m not just going to sit in the back and cry, “we’re all going to die” either.

If they smashed the radios on the way out we’re most likely toast, if I have to fly it. I don’t know how to program the FMS. I’d really want the plane on autopilot on an ILS or LPV. If the FMS will take it down the arrival even better. A 421 or PC12, sure, I could handle that without help. Those are close enough to something I’ve flown. A 737/777/787? Not so much. I’d bet the avionics alone are different enough to make it challenging.
