ATC controller arrested for possession of WMDs

Was he planning to crop dust the tower?

So, someone in the tower was actually talking to a crop duster, maybe? I don't get it.

Why is a pipe bomb considered a weapon of mass destruction? I think of a hydrogen bomb, or maybe a giant container of nerve gas.

Edit — the CNN story explains

“The FBI describes a weapon of mass destruction as any explosive, incendiary, or poisonous gas, including a bomb, grenade or rocket that has an explosive or incendiary charge of more than four ounces.”

So just 4 ounces of explosive makes it a WMD? A hand grenade would be more than that.

I guess Sadaam DID have all those WMDs!!

There's more to this story than they're telling us.

And I can remember going with dad to the local MFA (Missouri Farmers' Association) store when he'd buy dynamite.

He wasn't a farmer, he was over the field operations of the local power coop and sometimes they needed to blast rock when setting a pole.

The terrorists have won.

Fortunately, the FBI isn't the final arbiter regarding the English language. Or the law. Four ounces = WMD? Stuff and such. . .

Actually I erred in writing that it was the FBI definition. While it was on their website, the definition is actually from Title 18 U.S.C. §2332a. So it is the law.

Four ounces?!

So let me get this straight - every box of shotgun shells is a WMD?

Insane.

Just did a tour of CLT tower and Tracon a few weeks ago. Messed up but I am very curious to hear the whole story. Seems like "WMD" is a little excessive for a pipe bomb but like I said curious to hear the whole story. Glad nothing bad happened though. And @eman1200 CNN definitely sucks

This smells a lot like the story about the good 'ol boys that were stock-piling tannerite because they like to use their 50cal bolt gun to blow up junk cars on the weekends.

I find it interesting that every article I have read and every story I’ve seen on the news about this case mentions the job and employer of the ATC guy but no mention of the job or employer of the other one who actually built the bomb.

I thought the WMD charge was a bit much too, but there is a lot more to this story and it is not this guys first run in with the law.

Do you have a "cache of "thousands of rounds of 'high-powered' ammunition"? LOL

The media presents any firearms collection beyond a bolt action .22 and a 50 round box of ammo as a "Weapons Cache". Just like when someone is shot and killed, they call the perp "The Shooter" rather than "The Murderer". Note: Shooting isn't (generally) illegal. Murder is.

There is a movement in plain sight by many in the media to paint firearms and their ownership as an aberrant behavior. I'm not sure how to reverse that.

The whole issue has become such a perversion. The more the liberal media tries to demonized gun ownership, the more guns are sold, and the higher the number of guns per gun-owner gets. I think its ludicrous to hear gun show reps talk about how Obama was their best salesman. This wasn't an issue until liberals made it an issue. Now, its just nuts.

Elections have consequences. But the media and eduindoctrinators control the mindset of the impressionable

It is pretty cool to watch a car turn inside out and the steering column shoot up 300 feet in the air after shooting the car.
This good 'ol boy has been there and done that. :)

Nothing wrong with that as long as you aren't hurting anybody. I was just saying that its both amusing, and sad, how the media's "WMD" turns out to be something like tannerite.

There are a lot of country folks who grew up shooting stuff, blowing stuff up, etc out in the back 40 where its just a normal thing that kids(and a lot of adults) are into.

Then there are the city people and reactionary folks who think that always means someone is a terrorist or psycho. I mean it might... but not all people who use axes are axe murderers.

*ok and reading the article it does look like some shady stuff was afoot but the controller was an innocent party trying to keep a friend out of trouble.

But consider that there is a difference between your 40 acre back yard and the city, where you may be sharing 40 acres with 1000 people. Yes, I know that many people can choose where they live.
