Roy Halladay's Icon A5 down off of Tampa Coast

Were they not just promoting him as a new owner? RIP

This was just a month ago that they promoting him getting the 1st unit.

I don't see how this company can survive. A new icon now costs 400,000 and 2 fatal crashes out of 20 something planes.

Just heard the news conference. It was Roy Halladay that was killed. RIP. He was a great pitcher, and good guy.

He was posting on his Twitter about receiving his A5 and really pretty pumped about it. Has a wife and kids too. Jesus.

^ that

To early to talk about this crash, but haven't the others all been low level flying / pilot error?

Looking at his twitter is very depressing. RIP Roy. More concerned about the loss of life than anything, but going to be a struggle for ICON with this publicity.

does anyone know his prior piloting experience?

Low level maneuvering has bitten many a pilot. RIP.

I wasn't aware of the story. I Googled Roy Halliday, and Wikipedia already had his freakin' obit.

I don't know but he seemed to fancy himself a jet fighter pilot. He had previously tweeted this:
“I keep telling my dad flying the Icon A5 low over the water is like flying a fighter jet!”

His dad owns a T-33

Easy to blame operator error, but I guess we don't know until the reports come out. Could be an airframe failure..... RIP.

Sadly, I tend to agree. As of today, there are just 11 A5s in the FAA Registry that are clearly in private hands, including Halladay's. Another three show "registration pending."

I haven't kept up with the other Icon crash with the chief instructor.

Did it seem low level maneuvering in the canyon without enough clearance was the reason? Was that the only other A5 fatality?

So it's okay if it was somebody else than a celeb you like?
Any time I hear of a fatal accident, I hope it isn't someone I know. And I am sure you often have the same feeling.

Sometimes, celebs that we respect fall into that category. It's human nature.

Sad...there sure are times when it seems like flying an airplane is so risky.

I have never and will never put a celeb into the same category as friends and family unless he/she actually was. But then I guess I am different than a lot of folks. I don't engage in hero worship or fandom. Never really have.
