Wife wants to see the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, etc. Be there for a few days this coming week. I'm thinking about an FBO at N Vegas airport that does tours. Sent me info and said a 182RG for about 2 hours & their CFI would cover it plus a few other sites, L. Mead, Nellis, etc.

Not a gambler but we'll check the casinos out, go see the Love show (Cir O lay or something like tht). What else? No hookers this trip! :D

I'm not a gambler either, but I enjoy Vegas for the spectacle, the shows, and the food. There are a number of world class restaurants around town - pick a type of food, do a little internet research, and treat yourself and your wife to a nice meal one night.
 
Circ du Soleil. It has 3 or 4 shows running at different casinos.
 
Also, Red Rock Canyon is a short distance from town, and is phenomenal for hiking if the weather is nice (which it should be this time of year).

Lunch buffet at the Bellagio. About 1 or 2 pm when the crowd clears out but before the dinner price goes up.
 
Binion's Steakhouse is a great value.

You could do the obligatory Blue Man Group if you need a second show. I've seen Love and liked it, but I'm a Beatles fan.

For roller coasters, you can do the New York New York or the Stratosphere rides. Actually just going to the top of the Stratosphere at night is cool.

The Bellagio fountains are a nice lunch attraction. Better if you can get an outside table at Mon Ami Gabi. (in the Paris hotel)

Don't bother with La Tour d'Eiffel. It is nowhere near as impressive as the real one and the elevators are claustrophobic. It's restaurant is quite nice, but a bit spendy.
 
Red Rock Canyon is not too far away and it's a nice diversion if you want to get away from the strip for a while and do some walking or hiking during the day time.
 
Always love Vegas. Usually stay at Harrah’s as they’ve recently remodeled. Doing a fixed wing tour is likely to be a lot cheaper than the helicopter tours, but there’s a few helicopter tour companies right on the field at McCarran that can be accessed right from the strip. Pretty pricey, but worth it if you and the wife want to see the sights from the air. Apologies if I’m preaching to the choir, you might already know about this.

Some helicopters tours will land at the bottom of the Canyon and allow you to get out and look around though. Worth doing once.

Almost forgot... since your Italian, you might like Batista's Hole in the wall. http://battistaslasvegas.com/

Very reasonable prices and good food. We'd eat there once every weekend trip and about once a month when I lived there.

And stay away from the canyon view platform. Rip off in most every way. Put that money in the helo and you'll be glad you did.

I think Sundance does that, isn’t it?

Looked into it one time. I remember it being pricey. Close to the price of the airline ticket out there.

It's about $450 per person. Since it keeps me out of the Casino for 4 hours it's probably a bargain!

Somebody may have already posted this already, but if so I'll say it again...

As someone who has seen the dam and the canyon numerous times both by foot and by air, by foot is FAR, FAR, FAR better. No comparison.
After seeing one of the best natural wonders of the world and one of the best man made wonders of the world from the ground, I would never spend money to see them by air.

Vegas to Dam is a good day trip. Vegas to GC Village is a looooong drive.

Vegas to dam is 45 min to an hour.
To the canyon it depends.... South rim?? That's what I would recommend for a first timer. Research the best lookout points. For some reason "Angel Point" sticks in my mind.

food is good.

I rented a harley and took a desert tour. let me tell you something about the desert. it's @$%ing hot. and @#*$ing enourmous. and not conducive to a long ride on an air-cooled harley with a woman. my girl freaked out it was so hot. luckily for me it was after we got some shtooping in in the middle of lake mead. yeah, sorry bout that, fish. so, bike tour, not so good.
 
Only being there a few days, you'll have to budget your time. There's a lot to be said for seeing things up close and personal. The Panorama of the area from the air can be spectacular though. I'll be praying for good visibility for you. A quick glance at the Prog charts tell me you might have a shot at getting a nice break between systems to have clear air and maybe wet ground. That can really bring out the colors. The dam tour is cool if you are into that type stuff. If you stay in town you may want to get a view limiting device to prevent b***ie overload induced disorientation.

Sounds fun though, not as hot now.
 
I love the illusionists. Copperfield, Angel, Penn & Teller. Seen them all many times (Copperfield 9 times) and they have always been a hit. Can't recommend them strong enough.

I liked the Love show so much, I saw it twice.
 
The Freemont street experience is good. They do a couple different light shows each night.

The Griffin is a favorite. Good drinks, no gaming whatsoever, cool environment, and sometimes a band in the back room.
 
Well if you stay until the weekend, you could hit the end of season show for the Thunderbirds at Nellis. Aviation Nation is usually one of best events of the year.
 
Valley of Fire, is another pretty good hiking spot a little north of Vegas.

I haven't been there forever, but Battista's used to give you a pretty funny poster for the asking.
