Stop Start Stop Here we go again

Thanks.

Grasshopper said she wanted to check out a mechanics garage. I said trust me that’s not a place you want to spend any time in. Hopefully she learned her lesson.

How is it splitting one airplane between 10 people?

Surprisingly not a problem, some members have other aircraft as well so the schedule is usually pretty open. Some fly once a quarter maybe.

I was in a club for a few years with 3 planes, 120 members (70 or so active), and rarely had scheduling issues. If you flew 7-10 hrs you usually made the top 3 for the month. Sw Florida.

I haven't logged any APIC time in 13 months due to moving. Funny, I live right next to a grass runway and can see the windsock from the kitchen and bathroom and one bedroom. I have friends with airplanes, but I haven't flown without them in their airplanes yet. I want to buy. Closest rentals are $150/hr and 35 miles away. Planning on heading there in a few weeks. Been renovating the house we bought a year ago. Put an airplane's worth of cash into it already, and now we're about to start on the bathroom...

The heart attack will keep me from flying for a few more months. But I'll be back, I'll never go away, unless you offer bacon with lunch....

No bacon for you. :)

Let’s kick this thread up a notch.

Those that had a long hiatus from flying why did stop In the first place?

Money. And debt. (Otherwise known as the “stupid tax”.)

Had a five month hiatus within the past year due to engine repairs. Took awhile to source parts and then pay for them! I rented the Champ a couple of times during that dry spell.

I'm on a 35 year hiatus, but I hope to be back in the cockpit in a couple of months. I passed my Third Class Medical with no problems. I'm going through ground school again voluntarily, and I need to locate a CFI with access to a 172 within reasonable driving distance. There is a somewhat local club that is run extremely well, but they have a waiting list because of a shortage of CFIs.

Bumping this thread, it seems like I'm having some second thoughts about seriously flying again. The cost to fly is so much higher than it was before that it's a little hard for me to justify flying as a hobby. Do any other rusty pilots get cold feet along the way?

Nope. But yes, it ain't cheap. You might ask around at the airport for partnerships, clubs, etc.

Yes,,,

i flew from 1978 to 89,, then quit.
thought about it from time to time,, then,,
I took a Rusty pilot seminar from AOPA, 2 years ago.
this manch i drove 600 mi to look at a cherokee,, i bought it.
in june i got back there and flew it home,, my landings suck.
ive gone for 2, 1 hr flights since then, i still havent bent anything.
this may be all the pilot i will ever again be,, but i own a plane, its 8 mi away, sometimes i go out just to sit in it,
or do a taxi test,, but if i really do want to,, i can fire it up and fly it where ever i damn well please.
i hope i dont bend anything...
