GTX345 Service Bulletin

Foreflight says that Garmin says that it is a Garmin problem? And that is an acceptable answer?

Glad I don't use Foreflight.

Try it this way: Vendor 1 says the problem is with Vendor 2 and they are tracking Vendor 2's progress to address it.

Fast forward a week, a month, a year: Vendor 1 says "we're tracking it"

To be fair, the problem arose after a Garmin software update that feeds a third party application. If it truly is a Garmin issue with a Garmin product and Garmin software, what else is ForeFlight supposed to do? Not sure I understand your animosity. I have never had anything but positive dealings with ForeFlight, and I have used their application since they launched many years ago. I also utilize Garmin Pilot since having a massive avionics overhaul this year since it integrates better in some respects. Both have their merits, and I will probably continue to use both for different aspects of flying.

Not sure Garmin has any responsibility to feed third party apps. Seems the app that says they are compatible has the duty to handle it.

I've never seen a ForeFlight compatible emblem on a Garmin product.

Interesting...because right on Garmin's website it says:

  • Wirelessly stream weather, traffic, GPS position and backup attitude² via Connext® link to Garmin Pilot™ and ForeFlight Mobile apps as well as the aera® 795/796 portable
I have been happy with all of my Garmin products with the exception of this issue I've been having, and it has affected Garmin Pilot as well. If you are advertising your product to be capable of interfacing with a third party app on your website and people are buying it to do just that, you should probably be making sure that it is actually working the way you are advertising it. Otherwise, don't advertise that you are compatible.

I've been watching this very carefully and it hasn't worked as advertized since day one. There is no way in hell anyone should be paying for any of these sofware updates, but I have a feeling that many are.

I totally agree. Garmin rushed some of this to market. It's ridiculous that they won't allow us to download and install our own updates either. It literally works the same way as updating our databases. I did it along with the tech at the shop last week.

The only issue I can see being created that many may not understand the need to update the GTN or _______ softwares to work with the highest level of Flight Stream, that can and does affect approval documents, like the Flight Manual Suppluments for example, and those need to be replaced and signed off as necessary, mostly because the FS fix was bundled with other things. I still think they should consider them being free then. I think they are still having problems with overal LRU connectivity like the G500 stuff.

I might as well take it to my homebuilt neighbors and have them update the software in my Flight Stream (assuming everything else is is not affected should say in the bulletin which needs to be at what levels).

The 6.41 GTN update fixed the FIS-B weather problem for me in Garmin Pilot. I did not get a chance to try it in Foreflight yet.

I can't get my iPad to even stay connected via Connext after the 6.41 update, both with Foreflight AND with Garmin Pilot. Did you have anything else updated at the same time? Sounds like I missed an update on the GTX345 and the FS510 at the same time.

No, it was the only update performed.

FS510 is up to version 2.33 now, came out yesterday.

I haven't lately!! lol But you've got it spot on. Between work, home, working on the airplane, and just trying to have a life, time is slim over the past couple of months!

I didn't get a notification for that I don't think. Last notice I received was for 2.30 What were the changes?

Flight Stream 510 Software Version 2.33 fixes an issue introduced in Flight Stream 510 Software Version 2.30, that prevents iOS applications from communicating with the Flight Stream.

Can't get anything over 2.10 for certified aircraft yet without having a field approval done. It is not a part of the approved installation. Tried to get it done today at Sarasota Avionics and we even called Garmin. It should have approval "any day now" though. I need it bad since after I upgraded the GTN software my iPad is basically useless for anything to do with the FlightStream.

I'm aware of the feet dragging on STC revision. Basically the EAB folks are the R&D department even though they paid the same price for the FS equipment that the certified folks did.

Then there are certified drivers who have everything installed via field approvals for one reason or another and are not boxed into the STC data.

FS510 software v2.30 is finally approved under the GTN STC. That's still short of the latest v2.33.

The 4 DEC STC amendment changes it to V2.3X.

AML STC SA02019SE-D Master Drawing List (MDL Revision 17) includes:

  • GTN 6XX/7XX Software v6.41
  • GTN 7XX NAV Software v6.03
  • Flight Stream 210 Software v2.7X (All Flight Stream 210 Software v2.7X is approved by the equipment list)

You are correct. That is the first-time I've seen them approve software versions via STC before they even exited. Parallels the "iOS Whack-A-Mole" thread...
