Hi everyone.
Can the panel in the pic be upgraded to the 2020 and maybe precision GPS without changing most of it / everything?
What would be the best option?
How much if some used / not the latest devices will be used?
Thank you.

What type of flying do you do, where are you based and flying?

Between $300- $30,000 depending on the answer

No, your not going to be 2020 compliant for 300. Best way to minimumly comply in my option is to just ditch the transponder and put in a garmin unit, less than 3k. The current transponder is doa anyway at its next break down. To get GPS approach you will need to spend at least another 3k or so for an older used unit like a garmin 300 or king unit. The problem is those units for the most part are only partially repairable. Most screens are unavailable for repair. The 430/530 is moving there at a fast rate. The best solution, it ain't cheap, if you want a IFR GPS is one of the current garmin products. And I say that as someone that hates garmin.

Does all that equipment actually work?

Does it have a panel mounted intercom? If not, do you want one? If so, do you want to keep it?

There really isn't anything in there I could see keeping, especially if inop.

Plan on $15-$20k. That should get you an all-in-one transponder, a GNS nav/com, and an audio panel. might even cover an SL-30 for comm2.

Your CDI's should work with the "newer" stuff. (newer than what you've got, but not really "new")

I don't think there is one usable CDI there. The bottom is an all-in-one narco glideslope receiver with CDI, it won't, the top is an for ADF, it won't, the middle one *might*, but I doubt it even it is functional.

Yah, I see that now. the one that might, might, and he can keep the stand alone, throw away the ADF one, and get an SL-40. Still ends up with the same capabilities.

Audio panels (with 4 seat wired intercom) is typically around $4000 installed.
GTN650 with a used GI106A will be around $15,000.
GTX335 or GTX330ES (without internal GPS) and a new altitude encoder will run around $4000.

Hello everyone.
All the equipment works.
Yes, there is an Intercom, front 2 only.
Looking for some some GPS, mostly ILS, VOR and ADF used now maybe GPS in the future but not mandatory.
I would like to hear, get more details on the least expensive options?
Thank you.

No big deal just takes a little bit of this:

Least expensive option is to get the garmin gdl82 box that goes between the transponder and antenna, and a GPS antenna which will give you compliant ADSB (out only) for around $3000. Then get a handheld GPS or Foreflight on an IPAD for your GPS with maybe ADSB in for more money, maybe $2000.

Galaxy Tab A, FltPlan Go, stratux --> out the door for about $400.

I would not go with the gdl82 in his case. The transponder he has is basically a boat anchor. When it die, it's pretty much junk. Spend the extra 1.5k and get the 335.

To be 2020 compliant, you only need ADSB OUT.

A used King KT76 can be had for under $1000.

GTX 327 used on ebay ~$400
GDL 82 $1800
Plus install

But...Uavionics is coming out with a certified Skybeacon in the 1st quarter. No install costs and $1400.

Or just not worry about ADSB. There is a lot more airspace where it is not needed than the other.

I've got a nice 327 that can be had for 400 and you don't have to deal with ebay...some people here can vouch for me...maybe :)

Hi everyone.
It looks like the best course of action would be to wait and see if the "Uavionics is coming out with a certified Skybeacon", and the "GDL 82" will materialize. At this stage / present time, it looks like for an ADSB out, using some used components will cost around $3,000.00.
Thank you.

Scrap the ADF and one of the 170's and install a 430W. You's still have a spare radio to boot. A Garmin GTX transponder will get you ADS-B Out and In, and will connect to either Foreflight App or Garmin Pilot App on a tablet, so you wouldn't have to had a Stratus or Garmin GDL device.

Out with the old in with the new or used modern stuff. I would figure on a 430w a Garmin 345 transponder , the. Wait and see what’s coming over from the homebuilt companies. Like a tru track autopilot.

But the market will soon be flooded with inexpensive used transponders. The GDL82 is by far the cheapest way to achieve 2020 compliance. That Skybeacon thing is out for me because I've already got a set of Whelen strobes that I love.
